Well FDRS is constantly connected to Ford Servers so they know which modules get updated successfully. It's basically the same way it works for OTA. The first part of the process it takes stock of current module versions and then decides if the update should proceed. But you'd still see a software updating pending, this is how it's been explained to me, maybe something changed. It's definitely weird and annoying as hell.You’re probably right. Unless my car has some weird software configuration which is causing Ford to think I’m not eligible for the update, and which would not register as an install failure.
I don’t know if Ford periodically queries cars on its end to see what software they are running. I would think Ford would have to do this - otherwise any updates pushed via FDRS would be unknown on Ford’s end (unless eventually reported by a service center) and play havoc with OTA deployment.
