I was traveling down the highway this morning and traffic suddenly stopped. I had to slam on brakes. When I came to a stop I noticed the front distance indicator hadn't changed... I imagine due to the large void in the semi truck bumper in front of me that the radar probably passes through. Just be aware. Picture attached for reference.

I suppose you would have the same issue with a 4x4 in front of you that has pretty big lift. My Blazer only has 1-3/4” in back to level it, but it’s rear bumper is higher than the hood of a lot of cars.

I haven't had this with the MME yet, but I have experienced weirdness with adaptive cruise on other Ford vehicles when behind a semi like that. It'll start to slow down, and then think its gone and speed up and then see it again and slow down hard. Its especially noticeable if you're behind one going around a curve.

I've put in about 14,000mi at this point and I have yet to experience a problem like that with semis.. I am thinking maybe it was an anomaly?

I have experienced a time or two when it didn't notice the car in front of me but it was just kind of random. Small cars, big cars....

It's worked flawlessly for me until today, could just be an anomaly. I've got almost 18,000 on mine.

If this issue is prevalent on any significant number of truck trailers, this is going to be a huge hole in Blue Cruise being able to operate itself safely.
Thanks for the heads up, I’ll definitely keep my eyes out for similar trucks around here.

Is it really the front sensors that show the distance on the cluster? I thought it was the camera

I think when you're stopped the blue bar shows the setting, not the actual distance to the vehicle ahead.

BlueCruise isn't a driver. It's an assistant. You are driving.

I am going to have a Big Mac in one hand, and a Super Size coke in the other hand. I'll be like "Blue Cruise: You got this buddy!"

Also, it's October... shouldn't we all be using Blue Cruise already?

I have 12,233 miles on mine. Yes I feel the radar looks past the ICC bar. When I am behind a trailer I go to 3 or 4 bars On the distance.

Wast the car in front stopped or driving slowly? If it is driving slowly it can be detected by the radar very easely, and the radar will bounce off anything. Since it is easely able to detect motorcycles and possibly cyclists it will have the ability to see "around" the gap. If the car in front was stopped it will work very differently, and it will work somewhat erratic since it has to use vision (by camera) to see what is in front. The radar will not provide necessary information about if what it sees is just a sign or water droplets in the air, a parked car along the round, a car in the other lane, it will just provide the distance to "something".

This is a huge limitation for driver assist features, and probably one of the major reasons for not being able to deploy a level 3 system right now (self monitored self driving with no human monitoring required). These edge cases just still requires some level of human monitoring. There is a huge problem trying to balance the amount of phantom braking from being able to brake for "anything".

Also, the distance indicator in in seconds, and I think it is maxing out at about 1,5 seconds from the car in front, and it updates slowly at a low rate. It is just designed to tell the driver if distance to the car in front is less than 1 second (amber) or less than 0,5 seconds (red).
