I'm not sure I'd trust a lawyer that only charges $175/hr. That barely pays his college loans.
Having just paid off my son's Columbia law school, this hits close to home.

No, they only knew about the charger because they saw it while setting some mouse traps. There is now way that they noticed a (maybe) extra $15-$20/month on their electric bill.
So what? Is this some sort of threshold or legal qualification? The outlet and usage belong to the property, not the tenant. I'm not sure what your point is from a justification standpoint.

The problem is, and while I have not confirmed it, I know it to be the way it will be, they will try to tack on a nice round number of, say, 100 dollars extra per month effectively making my bill 225 per month. While I am not seeking a crusade, I don't want to roll over and be walked on either.
Instead of getting mad that the made up number in your head is too much, why not just ask them for the real number?

I like this solution.
Is this one you have personal experience with? The Amazon recommended one is a Poniie PN1500 that is 16 dollars.
Recommendations?
Our library loans out this specific model. Amazon doesn't "recommend" based on quality, they do it based on deals they cut with manufacturers and profit they'll make. Read all the reviews carefully.

Also note that in a power outage, these lose all history. So, you need to come up with "or $XX a month once we establish a norm" or similar.

Speaking as an attorney in Illinois, I do not know if you have a case. For me to find out for sure, I would research for many hours and charge you a hefty rate. After doing so, I would be able to tell you if you have a case worth pursuing or not. Honestly though, the cost of charging your EV will likely be much less than litigating. There is a possibility the attorney can talk to the complex and try to negotiate something.

Also, in the lease agreements I have drafted, I typically put a utilities clause (sample below). Further, I include language (fair to both Landlord and Tenant) that is broad as to not have to list out every little thing. I wish you luck and hope things work out you.

UTILITIES. The Landlord shall provide the following utilities and services to the Tenant:

[LANDLORD PROVIDES THE FOLLOWING UTILITIES]

Any other utilities or services not mentioned will be the responsibility of the Tenant.

Dude just offer to pay for 500 kWh per month, which is about $60/mo in NE at residential rates. That should be a generous amount of charging. That would be way cheaper than fighting it or having to pay for a meter.

At least here in the PNW and the Private Utility Company I work for, you'd be surprised how many people, companies, properties etc... check their bills meticulously and notice. ?‍♂

The Emporia power meter sends data to the cloud, so it retains the data even after a power failure.

How do you put that on an outlet?

The management company may not know how cheap your charging actually is and may expect it to be more. If you have a reasonable conversation with them about what it realistically is costing and then offer to pay that amount you may have some luck. Don't cheat the numbers, because if they are really low and ask for proof you will be made out to be a liar pretty quickly. Present numbers you can stand behind.

Dude just run an ext cord and tell them you'll power it off your own unit's power.
If you are morally ambiguous you can charge it using your own power sometimes and in the dead of night switch to their plug. But it seems you may not be a weekend/morning person to have the exterminator find out you have a car that is still plugged in during the work day

Calculate your monthly electric bill, and then use that to negotiate with the management for the raise in fee. Since you do so little miles, the bill should be relatively low.

Something unrelated. Just curious. OP only uses 10 miles a day. Hmm, I always see EV being beneficial when large miles are done due to the gas saving and maintenance saving. Otherwise, it is not really worth the extra price tag over ICE equivalent. I do 24K miles annually, so the gas and maintenance savings are pretty significant. Also the tax credit and tax free helps. If I am doing such little mileage annually. May as well go get a V8 or other specialty car. Like the new Bronco, very nice looking, but the 17-18MPG feels like a crime.
