2021 Mach-E AWD Extended Battery model.
In August we got a 'Powertrain malfunction' alert on the dash. The car still drove fine that day but we reached out to the dealer that day to bring it in.
It took about a week but they determined the rear drive motor needed to be replaced which would have taken about 2 months to get a new motor from Ford. They also found water in the battery pack when it was lifted to look. They kept the car for about a month and worked it down to the oil pump on the motor that needed to be replaced. As for the problem with the battery pack I was told that it wasn't water in the pack itself, but it was found in the tray that the pack sits inside. The diagnosis from the dealer is if we feel there is still water in the tray, hear it sloshing around to just park it on a curb to let it drain out.
Since that time we still hear sloshing, I've also read posts where it's possible to hear this from the coolants for the battery pack. https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/sloshing-sound.20755/
First...how bogus is it to get told by the dealer to 'park it on a curb to drain'? Is this an actual remedy? Has anyone else been told this? Second, if there is the possibility of water getting in the tray of the battery pack, how concerned should I be long term? Has anyone else had this issue?
I'll be honest here, my wife really wants to trade in the car since we were told that by the dealer. I am ok with keeping it I guess but I understand her concerns. Would replacing the car be on your mind if this was yours and the warranty expired in less than a month?
And no, we don't live anywhere near where the hurricanes hit recently and the car has not been in any deep waters.
