This is a Public Service Announcement:
First a little history
A long, looooong time ago before blue cruise OTA, or the 1.7.1 purgatory, or any OTA went out for the very first people there was an OTA update that had no notes at all. Back then we didn't have these fancy widgets you kids have now and we also had to walk uphill both ways to our DCFC station. All we had was our release notes which were a topic all of their own.
Lots of theories came and went. But as quick as it came it was gone, never to be seen again. Or at least that's what we thought.
Well actually we were right in a way as it hasn't happened again for those early builds. And it won't.
Now back to the present
MY22 are starting to get their first OTA updates with real content. But right before they get that update they are reporting a mysterious update that is blank in the release notes and doesn't even show up in their newfangled widgets. Sounds familiar?
Here's the answer you have all been waiting for:
What is it?
As part of the OTA process the Ford servers (AKA mother ship) pings the car and it reports back about every module. This status report is used to generate the specific set of files packaged together for each individual car to complete the desired update. This ping actually happens fairly often to ensure the database is accurate. That's why there is no update notes in this case and why it didn't show up in the widgets, it's not an update.
Then why did the OTA update icon show up?
It isn't supposed to. And part of the first update fixes that.
This has been a Public Service Announcement
TLDR: blank update = car talking to mother ship in preparation for first update
