Hi everyone! Can you help me take a look at this socket in my garage and let me know if the Ford mobile charger can plug directly in or recommend adapters or anything else i may need? Thanks!

That is for a NEMA 6-50 plug.

Unfortunately, the mobile charger only includes 14-50 and 5-15 plugs.

The really good news is that this receptacle that you have is rated for 50A, which is great for use with electric car charging... It's just that it's missing the Neutral wire that would be present in the 14-50 version.

So options I can think of:
  • have an electrician see if it can be rewired to 14-50R (he or she can do this extremely easily if the receptacle is close to the service panel, or in the unlikely case that the neutral wire is present but not connected)
  • buy a charger that includes a NEMA 6-50 plug; for example both Grizzl-E and Clipper Creek offer this option
  • find out from Ford if they will be offering a 6-50 connector/pigtail for the Ford Mobile Charger; it should be inexpensive if they offer it, but so far I haven't heard that they will
Welcome to the forum!

That will work as long as the wall charger isn't expecting to use the Neutral for anything while its 14-50 pigtail is connected.

Which it probably won't. But we don't know for sure.
I‘ve never seen an EVSE that requires a neutral.

This. There is no neutral pin on a J1772 connector, it's just AC Line 1 and 2. While AC Line 2 is used as a neutral for 120, for 240 there is no additional pin for neutral.

Like I said, it's unlikely that it's used, but we don't know.

Just because the J1772 plug doesn't need the neutral does not mean there isn't anything within the EVSE box that is using it.

Unlikely? Yes. Impossible? No.

I'm just frustrated that Ford isn't selling additional connectors for the mobile charger. They have a plethora of them for European customers, and from the outside, it appears to be the same charger.

The chargepoint flex is available for $50 off and has a 6-50 plug option.

I opened up my Grizzl-E and verified it has no physical connection to neutral.

Grizzl-E lets you choose between 6-50 plug and 14-50 plug when you purchase.

I have an EVSE connected to a 6-50 outlet. Works like a charm. Aerovironment. There are quite a few wall charger manufacturers that offer 6-50 chargers. If you want to use the Ford mobile charger, you'll need an adaptor as pointed out (several times) above.

Since the Ford mobile charger works on both 240v and 120v,

Would they perhaps have the controls and wifi set to run off 120v? Seems like this would eliminate some redundancy.
