Anyone else getting a fairly frequent charge fault occurring between the time the car reaches it charge target and preconditioning for departure? I charge at home overnight. I have the car set to charge any time I plug in but delay the start of charge to the cheaper rate between 11p and 7a. Car finishes charging somewhere between 6 and 7am and I have a departure time of 7:15 set for each weekday. About every third day, the car charge faults and fails to precondition. Of course it's on days like today where it was 30 degrees and impacts range loss even more.

I have unplugged and plugged back in charger. I have cleared and re-added the departure times. It's been in recently for its 30k service where I reported the issue and no problems were found.

What EVSE are you using? And can you clarify if you have a charging schedule set on the car, on the EVSE, or both?

@KarenW what does the error actually say?

Over the past few months I have been getting "Electrical System Drain. Service required." while using my Wallbox and Ford thought they fixed it by updating the modules, but it has continued to reoccur.

Its a Siemens VG2 and the charging schedule is set on the car and via Ford Pass. Yesterday it faulted. Today it was perfect. I did nothing to the charger or the car.

I get a message in Ford Pass that says my car experienced a fault while charging and the car fails to precondition. A loss of connectivity maybe?

I have had the same issue. I started playing around with the departure time on fordpass. It would fault at 3:50 am departure setting. So, I set it to 3:55am instead Also, i toggled the "precondition off plug" to "On". It has worked so far. I tried setting the time back to 3:50am once and it faulted again. So, i put it back to 3:55 and it worked. Dont ask me why 'cause I got no idea.

Those EVSEs are getting pretty old, my guess is your EVSE is failing which is why you are seeing intermittent charge faults.

It is but I've noticed this reported as occurring with newer chargers as well and thought it worth asking. Charger is not projecting any issue and works fine otherwise. But I hear you.

Some of the EVSEs have software bugs that cause charge faults (not fully J1772 compliant), sometimes the EVSE is failing, sometimes the install has an undiscovered wiring problem (loose wire or bad outlet), and sometimes it’s operator error (not plugging in completely or using adapters). Most of the time it’s not the car, it’s the equipment.

it's a software bug for sure and affecting some mach-e's and not others. i'm not saying it can't be a charger/evse issue, but i have a feeling it's not for most...

i went from a 21 premium to 23 gtpe recently. i had never gotten charge fault problem on the 21. same grizzl-e charger at home.

but 1st night i had the gtpe i had set the overnight charge time... i woke up early and decided to set the preconditioning time so i'd have a cozy car to head out to meet my friends for a pre-dawn run and got the charge fault. and inability to start. luckily we have a backup ice car so after the run and reading the forums, i got back in the gtpe and it started fine. i decided to remove the preconditioning thinking there's some glitch where the car goes from charging to then back on again to warm up the car and if that window is too close, a charge fault is happening. and wouldn't you know it, no charge fault issues for a few days.

ready to push my luck, i re-added the preconditioning and got another charge fault.

i may play with moving the end of the overnight charge earlier and thus create more separation from the preconditoning time at some point and try again. but for the last 2-3 weeks, with no preconditioning time, no charge faults. might just wait on pre-conditioning until we get another round of software updates.

Interesting as your issue is similar to mine and does seem to be tied to preconditioning. Had zero issues until cold weather arrived and I set the car to pre-condition.

Did you ever have any resolution with this? I have a 24 Lightning using a Ford Charge Station Pro and having the exact same issue. Last winter I plugged it in every night with no issues, this winter it throws the charge fault every single time. Sucks to not be able to warm up my battery when we are at -40C!

In a roundabout way. That issue persisted on and off through last winter but spring/summer came and went, during which at some point, PAK dropped my phone as key, again, and I wound up doing a reset which cleared my presets for warming up the car. This turned out to be a good thing as when cold weather rolled back around, I re-set the parameters in the app and NOT in the car, which is what I had done previously (as was recommended to me, on here I think), and - knock on wood - it's been working perfectly ever since.

I had previously been told that I needed to set parameters in the car and on the app. But this time around, I only set them via the app. Don't know if I was confusing the car/software, or what. *shrugs* but the issue resolved. Will cost you nothing to try if you have settings for warming the car both via the car display and on the app. Hope this helps.

Thanks Karen! Worth a shot for sure. Appreciate the reply.
