This was actually not too bad. I took some photos if anyone is interested in seeing behind the liftgate trim. You do have to remove all of the interior liftgate trim (four main pieces) to get to the tail light. It is secured with two bolts.
I know there is a TSB out for cars built before June with the potential for water leakage, but I did not have any sealant on hand so installed as is. Inspecting the original tail light and surrounding area it did not look like I had any intrusion to date.
If you are wondering why I am replacing, I actually bought the car with a broken tail light and no one noticed. The very bottom portion that is black was chipped. Since the area directly behind it was also black I didn't see it. I've been trying to get it replaced through Ford and the Dealer but stalled so ended up buying a replacement. Couldn't stand driving around this beauty with the cracked tail light even if it was barely noticeable any longer. If I get lucky and get the part from Ford or the Dealer that will be resold to recoup some. Part of the pain here was buying out of state and not wanting to drive that far to annoy them in person.
Anyways, take a gander if you are curious below.
