"Bye Felicia" some will say, but I still wanted to open up a thread to thank the community that helped me a lot through my short Mach-E adventure.
I was a long time lurker here and found a lot of content that helped me through the order process, delivery and ownership.

Ford Mustang Mach-E See you all at the charging station! 20220916_103951

Traded-in my 2022 MME GT as my long awaited Rivian R1T finally showed up.
Funnily enough, the Rivian was ordered way ahead of the MME, so props Ford on that.

Even on the last day, I couldn't help but think that the MME is a gorgeous looking car and I hope it'll make a lot of great memories with whomever ends up behind the wheel next.

As for the trip report, here it is:

MME GT Ownership - May 11, 2022 to September 16, 2022 - 4514mi

The good
  1. My actual experience.
No issues with the car! As on forums, people mostly come to report issues, I felt it was worth mentioning first.
  2. Looks.
Exterior look, and with a little less enthusiasm the interior look that is nice for a Ford but nothing to write home about for a $60k+ SUV
The bad
  1. Trust.
As you can tell with the mileage, I never used the car for roadtrips, only as a daily driver as I was never able to trust it to be reliable due to the HVBJB issue and I don't have time to get stuck in the middle of nowhere with a dead car, deal with Ford's shenanigans, towing companies that have no idea how to deal with the car and so on...
  2. My dealership sucked and the overall service experience does too.
The delivery experience was meh, they scratched the car as they were "detailing" it and wouldn't do anything about it.
It took months and almost had to stalk my advisor in order for them to cut me a check for my purchase protection money. I can swear they were hoping for me to give up and keep Ford's money.
Predatory salesmen that try to sell you useless warranties, or come in for a "great deal" which means paying 20k ADM for the same car with an extra option...
Absolutely zero service availability, seeing that the first appt was over a month away, I waited for the recall OTA supposedly coming in July. Came the end of August with no OTA, I found another dealership further away with less wait and got it updated.
  3. Software.
BlueCruise works well. That's the only positive I have about the car's software. Everything else is bad and all traditional car manufacturers need to get it together to be able to compete in the future.
Sync performance is bad... looks like it renders at 25fps max, stutters a lot, takes forever to boot.
The UI/UX is quite poor as well. Lots of wasted space, information hierarchy is backwards (who though putting the speed in an area usually occluded by the driver's hand was a good idea?), and overall feels unfinished.
There are a bunch of low hanging fruits leveraging the existing hardware to add features, for example using the cameras as Dashcam/Sentry mode.
The mobile app/cloud services are ridiculously slow as well, the UX is utter non sense as well with a lot of third tier info upfront and actually useful features either hard to get to or missing.
  4. Suspension.
It's been debated over and over on the forum, I don't have much to add there but even if it's supposedly better than the Select/Premium, suspension on the GT still leaves a lot to desire, especially on the rear axle. That's my only gripe with the chassis.
With all of that said, I wouldn't have been unhappy to keep the MME longer if the R1T didn't happen.
I would have just wished for two things:
  • a program to proactively replace the HVBJB on all Mach-E before you get stranded somewhere
  • the 2021 and 2022 MMEs to get the upcoming Android Automotive system retrofitted to get rid of Sync
Now, the R1T is a whole other thing and just too good an opportunity to pass on not to upgrade - factoring in the tax credit it cost me close to nothing to move from one to the next and you get much more car (physically - obviously and that one isn't entirely a positive for me, but also more power, more range, a much better finished interior and much much better software).

So once again thank you all (special mention to the 3/14 build gang šŸ¤˜), enjoy the road ahead and I will keep lusting on good looking MMEs at the charging stations.

I completely and utterly agree on the software and UI. I am a whole hearted tech geek (smartphones, smart home, computer gaming, etc.) and in 2022 there is NO excuse for a car this expensive to have such laggy and poorly laid out software. Simply slapping in a big display does not make a car high tech Ford. Shell out some cash for a better CPU and GPU and write better GD code.

Luckily even without upgrading hardware, things could be greatly improve by refining the code and, you know, actually pushing out updates. I love Rivian's. Chatted with an owner yesterday at an EA charger. Enjoy and best of luck!!!

Thatā€™s for a quad motor large battery. Max pack will add more delays due to existing production queues. Additionally, Rivian wonā€™t start building dual motor small battery configs until mid-2024. So really, that 12ā€“18 months is actually 12-24 months.

If you can afford it though quad motor + large pack hits the spot for non-towing scenarios.
Getting 290mi out of a charge vs 240mi out of the Mach-E GT driving them similarly.

I'll do you one better. I had an R1T quad motor and large pack over Labor Day Weekend, and we consistently saw 2.8-3.0mi/kWh which loosely translates to 360mi range. A decent amount of highway driving on conserve mode (front motors only), and I'd say 30-50mi in all-purpose and sport mode. And yes, we launched it a handful of times.

While I really wanted to upgrade to a GTPE, it would be an even larger excuse to never take my Mach-E anywhere, or load it with tools and constructions supplies, because I wouldn't want to trash it. With the Rivian, I get the luxury and comfort of a Mach-E, with the utility feature of a pick-up. Albeit I'm a preorder holder, my configuration is roughly $73,000, which is a few $$$ more than the GTPE at 2022 pricing.

The performance, utility and price swayed me to neglect the want I had for the GTPE and stay with my R1T preorder, which will hopefully be filled this year. That tax credit would be nice to get, since we probably won't get one next year due to the newly imposed battery sourcing requirements.
