2023 MME GTj
My wife needed to catch a flight out of Cleveland Hopkins Airport. We live east of Pittsburgh. So figured good reason to take a day-long road trip in the 2023 MME GT extended AWD!

We left our house with 100% charge. Traversed the 152 miles up the PA Turnpike, across the Cleveland interstates, to the Cleveland airport. BlueCruised it for 90% of the trip (love BC!) At 70mph I got around 2.4mi/kwh. It was a chilly 25 deg.F... Ran cabin heat at 72 @ medium fan speed. Arrived at Hopkins with about 35 miles (16% of charge) remaining. Dropped off my wife and parked at the cell phone lot to figure out my strategy to get back home. I wanted to learn some new things about roadtripping, so figured I'd experiment with a couple charging stops. As fate would have it, I was sitting right between two newly installed charging sites; A v4 Tesla charger and a new Ionna 'rechargery'.

I drove to the Tesla charger in North Ridgeville, OH. It's located in a Starbucks lot. It is in the Ford onboard navigation App - so I set it for my destination, got there with 20 miles remaining. The new Tesla chargers are soooo nice compared to the older ones. I didn't feel like an outsider. My front bumper wasn's scraping the curb, and the cable length was just right. I didn't have to take up 2 spots. Very big improvement. I got 153kw right away, and held above 100 until about 60%. Got a coffee at Starbucks. Left with 81% after 35 minutes.

I could have headed home from there, but decided to take an additional 45mile trip east across I-90. I wanted to try out the new Ionna charger site at the Sheetz in Willoughby, OH. It doesn't exist in many of the apps - but it's there, and works well (google Ionna to learn about it). I had the whole snowy lot to myself. Plugged in with 59% charge - and got to 80% after 25 minutes.

With that, I headed south to Pittsburgh. Drove 150 miles, pretty much reverse of my morning trip. Pulled into my garage with 20 miles (11% charge). All around, a good learning day and quality time driving the MME.

I love that power graph at the Ionna station. Good to read that you had an uneventful trip. 😊🐩

The PFJ GM Energy chargers provide that same graph in the EVGO app. This was my Hummer charging from 30 to 80%. (The cost was not really $0, there is a delay in the billing from PFJ).

Nice write-up, what was the cost per kWh at the two places you stopped?
The Tesla cost $0.45.... In my mind, that seems pretty good. (The EA and EVGo stations tend to be $0.56 around me.) The Ionna was about $0.49. That's from memory... I'll need to do a little advanced math and check on charging history to be sure. Worth noting that Ionna doesn't have an app yet - so you scan your card, and they take $75 as your good-faith money. And that's been returned to me already.

Yikes! Glad I haven't had to public charge yet... 😱

I was interested in the fuel cost per mile. I did a bit more math using the full trip and assuming the OP has $0.20 kWh residential electricity rate (internet-sourced avg. price for Pittsburgh). Round trip I calculated $0.15 per mile.
Yeah, you start paying upwards of $.40/kWh, there is no advantage over gas @ $3/gal.

I'll go through the details and work up a spreadsheet and post. Our local rate is $0.09.

I filled my Maverick at $2.79 yesterday! Why exactly, are you still in CA? 😅
Job, house, family. You know, minor inconsequential things. 🤪🐩
