My wife needed to catch a flight out of Cleveland Hopkins Airport. We live east of Pittsburgh. So figured good reason to take a day-long road trip in the 2023 MME GT extended AWD!
We left our house with 100% charge. Traversed the 152 miles up the PA Turnpike, across the Cleveland interstates, to the Cleveland airport. BlueCruised it for 90% of the trip (love BC!) At 70mph I got around 2.4mi/kwh. It was a chilly 25 deg.F... Ran cabin heat at 72 @ medium fan speed. Arrived at Hopkins with about 35 miles (16% of charge) remaining. Dropped off my wife and parked at the cell phone lot to figure out my strategy to get back home. I wanted to learn some new things about roadtripping, so figured I'd experiment with a couple charging stops. As fate would have it, I was sitting right between two newly installed charging sites; A v4 Tesla charger and a new Ionna 'rechargery'.
I drove to the Tesla charger in North Ridgeville, OH. It's located in a Starbucks lot. It is in the Ford onboard navigation App - so I set it for my destination, got there with 20 miles remaining. The new Tesla chargers are soooo nice compared to the older ones. I didn't feel like an outsider. My front bumper wasn's scraping the curb, and the cable length was just right. I didn't have to take up 2 spots. Very big improvement. I got 153kw right away, and held above 100 until about 60%. Got a coffee at Starbucks. Left with 81% after 35 minutes.
I could have headed home from there, but decided to take an additional 45mile trip east across I-90. I wanted to try out the new Ionna charger site at the Sheetz in Willoughby, OH. It doesn't exist in many of the apps - but it's there, and works well (google Ionna to learn about it). I had the whole snowy lot to myself. Plugged in with 59% charge - and got to 80% after 25 minutes.
With that, I headed south to Pittsburgh. Drove 150 miles, pretty much reverse of my morning trip. Pulled into my garage with 20 miles (11% charge). All around, a good learning day and quality time driving the MME.
