I try to take the family up to ride once a week during the ski season and my local hill is about 100 miles away. I know the AWD/ER option should get me there and back on paper, but I am wondering about lugging my equipment. That frunk looks perfect for dumping our boots into, but I would need to throw my boards and skis into the top box. First off, do we think there will be a rack option for the Mach E? Then if there is, how much would that cut down on range? Does anyone with EV experience have any input? Is a 200 mile round trip out of the question with a rack? Is it a 20% reduction in efficiency. A 50% reduction? Our Odyssey is our current snow mobile and that will continue to be our ICE option. Any input would be appreciated.

I am in the same boat as you. I believe there has been confirmation that there will be no factory option for mounting ski or bike racks, but there may be hope for aftermarket options. In terms of range impacts, I am also interested in the answer.

We in Norway was told that option will be available. Dealer days that more info will come in November. Tow hook with max capacity of 750 kg and hook will have a vertical capacity of 60 kg. I can update here once I receive the final info.

Sadly, Ford has said that will be an option for Europe only. I guess they think Americans don’t need to haul anything with their SUV.

I’m sure Thule and Yakima will have rack feet pretty fast. I don’t have BEV experience carrying boxes but know our Prius mileage would drop from 50 mpg to about 35 mpg when the rack and box were on top.

Yeah-I’m thinking with a top box on I won’t be able to make a 200 mile round trip in an AWD/ER. There is an Electrify America spot along the way, but frankly it’s probably just easier in the Odyssey. I’d be curious to try it, but when you consider the cost for the rack to put the Thule box on. And that is if there is a rack option. But knowing Thule and Yakima and some of the cars they’ve made racks for I’m sure they will a rack for the car.

One of the things that immediately stood out on the ID.4 was the standard tow hitch on US market cars. I hoped Mach-E would have something like that optional in the US.

Spoke to my Norwegian dealer this week, which confirmed that Ford Norway has teamed up with a company to offer a ski hatch to Norwegian customers. Apparently it will be 15 x 20 cm wide with maximum length of 220 cm. The price is unknown yet but will be released soon.

Neither Yakima nor Thule have solutions on their websites at this time.

I just received the following from Yakima, which may help those of you who already have Yakima systems.

I've reached back out to them to see if they have a fit for their current roof racks. I've also reached out to Thule and am awaiting a response.
Bummer.
@pdxzzr just replied: The link they gave you leads to a regular Mustang, not the Mach E
I'm reaching back out to Yakima.
