I want to share another forum member (@Pacecar) that tested level 3 charging for the first time today. It was painfuly slow and very disapointing. This is not my first EV, I know that cold charging is slower, the battery temperature is important, etc.
Here are the datas :
Mach-E Premium AWD, 68 kWh battery
Charging station power : 350 kW (Petro-Canada)
Outside temp : 23F
Starting SOC : 88%
Arrival SOC : 19%
Highway speed before the test : 68 MPH
Peak charging speed : about 43 kW at 65%
Session summary : 61 minutes to charge from 19-80% (42 kWh).
He ended the charge at 80% after a drop at.... 6 kW! Wow! Slower than lever 2 charging! I never charge over 80% but c'mon Ford, with the big buffer I tought that it would keep the speed until 90% like the Audi E-Tron
I'm pretty surprised, especially after over 1,5 hour of highway driving. I still hope that Ford add an option to precondition the battery but after highway driving a a few minutes of level 3 charging, the battery is supposed to gain heat. We need a way to monitor battery temperature.
I tought that my Kona charged slowly in winter, but I did better than that with 50 kW charger. I haven't test my own Mach-E on level 3 yet.
