First preorders of a car not reviewed or tested by the public yet is hardly a success. It is how many they sell over 10 years. The first year's allotment of 50,000 vehicles has been sold, and then some. It's already successful. I anticipate many of the items you're talking about will become available, although on a portrait mode screen. And there is carplay/android auto anyway.
If that is the case, just sandbox the whole browser so it cant touch anything else, not sure if it is linux/unix based, but basically don't give the browser root access. They can go on netflix/youtube etc or browse this forum etcOf course since the entire HMI on the Mach-E is HTML5/react based it would only take a few lines of code to enable the user to run a browser. Bang support for anything, even porn. (I could be wrong here: I know it was mentioned in more than one presentation but they may have been only talking about the prototype and not the final product being based on HTML5/react.)
Keep in mind that this would open up a ton of security issues (vehicle security issues not just personal security issues).
Note that My Ford Touch originially had a browser in it but got nixed early on due to all the issues with MFT in general.
Of course this is for stationary while parked or charging. Not sure I would want these features while driving ... especially the game mode ...
I'll tell you their prior CEO (before today) use to LOVE saying that Ford *is* a "tech company."
The $53k Mach-E I've got on order doesn't have the same UX as the $37k Tesla that's the equivalent to the one I've already got, I'd say that's a problem indeed.
Thanks Jolteon, you seem to understand and you have a Tesla as well so you know baseline what to expect
