The first year's allotment of 50,000 vehicles has been sold, and then some. It's already successful. I anticipate many of the items you're talking about will become available, although on a portrait mode screen. And there is carplay/android auto anyway.
First preorders of a car not reviewed or tested by the public yet is hardly a success. It is how many they sell over 10 years.

Of course since the entire HMI on the Mach-E is HTML5/react based it would only take a few lines of code to enable the user to run a browser. Bang support for anything, even porn. (I could be wrong here: I know it was mentioned in more than one presentation but they may have been only talking about the prototype and not the final product being based on HTML5/react.)

Keep in mind that this would open up a ton of security issues (vehicle security issues not just personal security issues).

Note that My Ford Touch originially had a browser in it but got nixed early on due to all the issues with MFT in general.
If that is the case, just sandbox the whole browser so it cant touch anything else, not sure if it is linux/unix based, but basically don't give the browser root access. They can go on netflix/youtube etc or browse this forum etc

Of course this is for stationary while parked or charging. Not sure I would want these features while driving ... especially the game mode ...

I'll tell you their prior CEO (before today) use to LOVE saying that Ford *is* a "tech company."

The $53k Mach-E I've got on order doesn't have the same UX as the $37k Tesla that's the equivalent to the one I've already got, I'd say that's a problem indeed.

Thanks Jolteon, you seem to understand and you have a Tesla as well so you know baseline what to expect

An iPad car mount should be able to satisfy all your requirements? I believe the car comes with HotSpot and USB/USB-C charger for your pad.
And where will you mount an iPad? On top of the center console?

Someone should send this thread to the new CEO and have him ask his software developers to get this done - if anyone says no or it can't get done , get rid of them. That's an easy way to change Ford into a tech company and start to innovate ...

I don't think 80,000 people ordered a Mach-E to sit parked watching videos in it...
My 2014 Fusion Hybrid has a video and audio input inside the armrest console box, so I can attach a small DVD player inside (the car has an 120 VAC outlet) and watch videos, on the infotainmant screen when parked. No need to wait for a Mustang Mach-E!

I want a car that just works and is reliable as ppssible. Once you start to clutter these systems there are mpre fail points. Lets start with just getting a good car.
I agree. My first car was a 1965 Rambler American and the only technolgy it has was a transistor AM radio, but it all worked. Now I have plenty of advanced features in my 2014 Fusion Hybrid, including voice commands, and I really don't use or need all of it. BTW, I am an EE and I know how all of it really works!

On the windshield above center console (when with friends/family), or on the windshield straight in the driver's lines of sight (when it's just me).

Using the car infotainment for web browser and/or video feels very suboptimal. The location of the infotainment display is just not good for angling my head at for 30 minutes. Then again, I would probably prefer to stretch out during DCFC.

Also, if you've sit in a Mach E, you'd notice that the Mach E infotainment display doesn't angle toward the driver/front passenger face, it angles toward the chest (presumably to avoid glare). Again, that makes watching movie unsatisfactory.

By the way, I am a millennial born in the 90s. That being said, my opinion is just mine.

I'd rather have Netflix and Chrome, honestly.

Not everyone has an unlimited data plan, and viewing on the in-car screen is much better anyway.

I'm going to be disappointed without it. I seriously expect it to be one of the first OTAs, to address this obvious shortcoming in the Mach-E.

The car won't come with free unlimited data either. Tesla charges $10 for premium connectivity. And if you paid that, you can use car's hotspot.

This will change your mind

Go download the turo app , rent a model 3 for a day ... go ask your girlfriend/wife or whoever on a date. Go park somewhere nice (view of the golden gate bridge etc) and watch netflix and chill with your significant other .. you will see how it can't compare to have native apps in the car versus fumbling connecting an ipad /laptop etc

Also Tesla charges for premium connectivity for the car, I think Ford should as well for these features. I think most people who use these features don't mind paying 10$ a month for it

I'll do what you suggested if Mach E end up has these features. Maybe you'll be proven right. I'm not going to rent a Model 3 to try this out.

For now, I guess we'll agree to disagree.

I'm rooting for Ford to release it with these features or at least OTA update it to allow it to shortly after release. I just need Ford stock to rise and I'll buy a Mach E to join you guys as Mach E owners

That doesn't solve everything. Chrome has a sandbox for itself and it had over a hundred vulnerabilities last year.

Ford's stock doesn't rise! LOL the joke amongst the Ford employees I know is that "we do bad, stock prices fall, we do good and stock prices fall" ;)
