My buddy lives in the mountains and the rats nest in the engine compartments and eat up the wires. Only way to prevent it is keep the hoods open. It looks funny when you drive to his house, all the cars with hoods proped open.

What are you going to do to prevent or dare I say it, eliminate it from happening again?

so.... I have a number of friends/clients that have vehicles parked outside with 'occasional use', and they all pretty much agree that the 'repellants' are useless, and the sonic blasters are annoying for people that can hear them and drive pets bonkers.

what they HAVE had some success with is wiring a strand of 12v LED lights to the 12v battery, and stringing the strand around the engine bay. apparently the 24x7 light makes the engine bay less attractive to nest in.

Besides a 24x7 glowing Frunk sounds cool.

Put moth balls in the engine compartment in a net bag.

And drive the car around the neighborhood at least weekly.

My deductible for insurance is 1000
The wiring harness is 300 (70 for harness 200 labour) roughly
It's only a 2 foot section that goes from front headlights and camera back to the firewall
Lowering collision deductible can be expensive. Lowering comprehensive Is around $50.00 a year at $250.00. Maybe look into it !!

A decade or three ago, a Waikiki Beach ocean front hotel had a historical and quite old banyan tree with a big rodent problem. The rats were slowly killing the tree which was a main feature of the ocean front courtyard.

The hotel tried numerous pest controls, traps, and hired many experts, all to no avail. Finally, one of the night employees started bringing some cats to work with him. Problem solved.

My point besides plugging the Moana Surfrider? Cats. They work.

There is some truth to that.
While I don't have a cat but I do I have found my dog is somewhat effective at helping. I now will free let my dog come into the garage with me when I go out there to get something from it or go to my beer fridge. It at least some what of a deterrent to have a her come out there and get her smell on things. Plus I can watch to see if there is anything that is really getting her attention. I do dread the day she catches a something out there.

Not much I can do get it fixed and move on. Thankfully it's only a 70$ harness that's destroyed
Is it a $70 harness that will take 70 days to arrive or did they actually have it stocked?

Wish you could tell that to our damn neighborhood cats. There are easily 5-10 that roam our neighborhood, but instead of hunting rodents they just crap in our gardens, on the gravel next to our driveway etc. Last year the squirrels ate their way into our attic, and this year they did the same to my neighbors. Fortunately I drive my car every day, so hopefully that shakes them loose, but it is certainly on my mind.

Or at the very least the squirrel gets to take a joy ride with you. Traveling in style in the MME.

You could also flip it to your advantage. There was a recent article about a squirrel that stockpiled 42 gallons of walnuts in a persons truck hood. Plant some walnuts trees and let the little buggers do some work for you. If they are going to live in the car, they should pay rent via picking walnuts. ;)
