So after having installed the SSM on Friday, I can say that PaaK for me is better but still far from perfect. I can actually use the 'lock' button on the outside of the door (I turned off walk away lock as I don't want it locked in my garage). I haven't had had any issues unlocking the doors beyond pushing the button 2-3 times. Startup is better, but again, sometimes takes several button pushes. So I'd say it went from 60% to 85%. Still not perfect., but better. I might try disabling and reconnecting PaaK on my phone. FYI, it's a Samsung Galaxy S20+.

It has now been 5 days since I had this update applied. The evidence is anecdotal, but I still haven't had a single PaaK failure since then (other than when I removed the car from FordPass to try to fix a different issue). I think I'm starting to become a believer.
Did you completely delete your car from FordPass, or just disable PaaK? And if you completely removed it, did your free kWh stay in our account? On an unrelated note, I've never gotten Plug and Charge to activate on my car in the app. I thought about deleting it and re-adding, but was afraid I would lose the free charging.

I completely removed the car from FordPass. It was a hassle to get everything working again though, so I wouldn't recommend doing that if you don't have to.

The free charging stayed on my account, so you don't need to worry about losing it. I have Plug and Charge enabled, but I don't have any way to test it since there aren't any EA stations in my state (yet).

I wasn't ready to say that PaaK was fixed right away, but now that it's been over two weeks since I got the update, I'm calling it.

Before the update, at least 50% of the time, the door wouldn't open with Paak, and even if it did, the car often wouldn't start. When I looked in the app, it would say Bluetooth Disconnected, and nothing I could do would make it reconnect, so I would end up using the backup start code. This was annoying enough that I gave up on Paak and just started carrying the key fob.

Since the update, PaaK has worked perfectly about 98% of the time. I've had a couple of instances where the door didn't open at the first button press or the car said "no key detected" at the first press of the start button. But in both of those cases, simply pressing the button again worked perfectly, so it really wasn't an inconvenience. For reference, I have an iPhone 12 Mini, and I keep it in my left front pants pocket. I do not typically take it out when I get in the car.

I know this update hasn't worked for everyone, but this drastic difference in PaaK reliability that I've experienced has made me a believer.

Sadly, I have had the exact opposite experience. I finally got my car activated a few weeks ago and set up paak. It worked nearly flawlessly for the first week plus.

Over the last couple of days, it has really fallen off. Exactly as you say - nothing works and when I open the app, it says b/t disconnected. Most times, I can just wait a bit with the app open and it will connect.

Three times now, I opened the door and put the phone on the wireless charge pad. Hit start and got the "key not detected" message. Two seconds earlier, it let me open the door. And now it disconnected again. Oh, and If the car is on, but in park, it won't let you shift into gear. Really fun in the drivethru...

I may look into the ssm to see if that could offer some relief. Glad to see your issues were resolved. Hope to have a similar experience.

Not to derail this thread, but did you have any tricks/tips to re-add your vehicle? I did the same to try and troubleshoot an unrelated FordPass issue, and now the 'Activate' button hangs with no popup in the car, etc. I am super irritated at myself for deciding to meddle/tinker, since FordPass and PaaK otherwise worked well enough for me.

Go into the PaaK settings in the car and do a reset. That will remove any associations the car thinks it still has. I couldn't get things working again until I did that.

Thanks! That seemed to help with vehicle status, connectivity etc. This time around though, PaaK setup is now not working for me at all (as of today, that is). Since perfect is the enemy of good, I think I'll just stick with the fob for now and make an appointment for the SSM update.

Following up on my issue of a well-behaving paak suddenly going on the fritz...

I found in my phone settings that FordPass was not allowed background data usage. I definitely didn't toggle the setting, but it seems to have been turned off. I turned it back on and paak works almost perfectly again.

It does use more battery, but not insanely so. Number 3 on my list today, at 11.6%.

Hope this experience helps someone else!

Anyone know if this update is already applied to more recent vehicles? I took delivery last week, but at least 20% of the time I get the key not found message and need to use the backuo start code.

My car was made in March and demonstrated the same thing. I took it in to my dealer who updated the software and it has not dropped any pairing with the car. BUT, I started using Apple Car Play and it uses a Wi-Fi connection (after it starts with Bluetooth) which is superior to Bluetooth in the amount of information that can be transferred, etc. Was told by the technician not to use both my FOB and my phone as this can mess up the module that gets the information so I've placed the FOB in a Faraday bag and it's even better as far as not dropping and no key detected messages. Once I am convinced the problem is solved, I'll leave the FOB at home and just use my phone.

EDIT 5-29-2021: PaaK did not work today when I went out to the car. Got the key not detected error message and car wouldn't start. I didn't want to use the backup code so I took the FOB out of the Faraday bag and used it. I'll try phone again tomorrow.

I got the SSM 49730 applied to my MME at the dealer this week. Unfortunately, it didn't help. I also tried removing my phone and re-pairing it after the update, but that didn't help. It's not that my phone cannot connect to the car. The app shows I am fully connected to the car. When I walk up to my MME, it knows I am here since it turns on the puddle lights for me. The strange issue is that I cannot open the door after walking up to the door (unless I do remote unlock via the app). The behavior with PaaK so far has been the same before & after the SSM update.

The free charging is attached to your FordPass account, not the app. I’ve had to reinstall the app and set up the car again when it went in for work. The free charging stays right there.

Took my MME CR1 to my dealer for the PAAK update. It didn’t fix the issue. It seems that the car is sending out 2 Bluetooth signals. I have to bring it back so the “expert technician” can take a look at it. The service guy said it will probably need a new modem.
Later that day my one peddle drive stopped working. On the screen the OPD was grayed out and couldn’t be turned back on. That has never happened before. I pulled over and restarted it and the OPD worked. Not sure if the update caused it but kind of a big coincidence in my opinion.

when FordPass is set up, and PAAK is working, there are two BT pairings. One is 'regular' BT for phone functions, and the other is specifically for PAAK. you need both.

if you have an incorrect or partial PAAK activation, it is a huge PIA to remove pairings from MME and remove app from phone and start all over, but that's the only thing that works. There are several old threads started back in Feb on exactly what you have to do to completely clear everything and start over.
