SSM 51228 2020-2023 Various Vehicles - Equipped With A TCU - Various FordPass/LincolnWay App Or Modem Concerns
Some 2020-2023 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with a telematic control unit (TCU) may exhibit inoperative remote features via Ford Pass/Lincoln Way mobile app, incomplete user authorization, and/or modem electronic serial number (ESN) could not be displayed in the center display screen. To correct this condition prior to programming, remove the TCU fuse for 5-minutes then reinstall. Delete all previous session files for the vehicle. Start a new Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) session. Perform a TCU provisioning and Program the TCU to the latest FDRS version level. If the concern is still present, follow normal diagnostics in Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 415-00. Refer to PTS OASIS home page for TCU version identification. For claiming, use causal part 14G229 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
----End SSM----
I've seen this a couple times over the past year, vehicles with this issue may not have functioning remote start from the FordPass app, or an "activation pending" message that never goes away. Affected vehicles may not receive any OTA updates as well. Check for the presence of a missing "Onboard Modem Serial Number (ESN)" in Settings > General > About SYNC on the screen. You can also directly check the TCU provisioning status in Bezel Diagnostics. On the steering wheel, hold VOL – and ᐊ arrow until it pops up on the screen (similar to SYNC reboot). On the left side, scroll down and tap on TCU Diagnostics, and then scroll down on the right until you see the Provisioning Status. It should say "Provisioned". If not, then you need to visit your dealer and mention this SSM.
The TCU fuse is #11 (5A) in the passenger footwell. FDRS is required to complete the provisioning process.
Note: This will not enable the frunk button before anyone asks.
