It is now possible to display 17 different 'stock' dashboards from CarScanner via the center screen Android Auto, but not any user defined custom dashboards unfortunately.

I updated my phone Apps to
CarScanner v 1.111.8
AA v 12.8.643614-release

and found that Carscanner now appears as a valid AA app, and you can follow on screen prompts to connect to your ODB2 and display real-time data with 17 pre-defined dashboards. Unfortunately, no way I can find to import/load a saved custom dashboard that you may have defined on your phone.

If anybody knows how, please post !

Is there any development team at @Ford Motor Company that we can petition to help the CarScanner developer get this functionality into the AA version of Carscanner?

This would be a HUGE enhancement I'd be willing to pay a one-time development fee for. I did buy the 'pro' version of carscanner in hopes development would continue, but I have a feeling that pushing a new product into AA is pretty tough.

Blame the developer of the app, not Ford. Ford will not help you since it’s not their business what a 3rd party app does.

Apple probably has some rule about displaying gauges.

Not Apple.... Android Auto.

but yeah, I got an email from the CarScanner developer that so far he is limited to text displays only.... which doesn't make a lot of sense since other apps like Navigation have moving graphics, and the instrument display itself has 'gauges and graphics' that move and change to display speed, etc.

my hope in tagging @Ford Motor Company in this thread is really just hoping that they might put a word in with google to ALLOW CarScanner app to display graphics since the display of car sensor data isn't in the same class as 'distracting video display' like watching uTube or something like that while you drive.

It sure would be a very cool feature to be able to customize sensor display and make more use of the giant center screen.

I'm going to go out on a very long, shaky, storm-damaged limb here and speculate that companies like Google and Apple don't want to allow 3rd party apps to display animated graphics on CarPlay/CarDroid because there's no way to know, definitively, whether someone is displaying information, such as maps, or actually trying to circumvent and display game graphics or video. I suspect "reputable" makers of a limited set of applications (basically Google Maps) get a "pass" (which would be expected for CarDroid since that's a Google system anyway).

I dunno, I'm hoping that AA could 'tell' that the data is non-video data coming from phone via BT rather than a video stream coming in via wi-fi ?

Maybe a low "max baud rate" would let thru text data, but lock out video streaming ?

I dunno. At a minimum, I'd like to pick the specific sensors I want to see on screen. none of the pre-scripted 17 dashboards have the 5 I'd like to have up in view. I could live with it being text I guess, but I would prefer a big dial gauge for the Power in the corner of my vision rather than a number I have to read.

... so, for now, I'll just go back to using my screen-side phone holder to display CarScanner ...

I don’t know how cardroid works, but I thought I read someplace that all CarPlay does is to provide essentially a video stream of a screen to sync. I think they may have taken the “lazy” approach to what apps to allow
