Wow! So sorry‼? lucky for you there is not much damage. Nothing worse than Christening a new car. My husband, on our first trip in our brand new RV backed into a tree and it cost $5000 to fix? kind of ruined our week. And I watched it all with no time to stop it from happening. ;)

My OCD has me leaving a gray micro fiber towel on the charge door when open and charging so I can use it to close it and not leave finger prints on it. It is part of my routine and has worked seamless. Micro goes to the hook with the cable after unplugged and closed so it lives with the cable or door.

That's a good point, but I think I'd want to start with the 20 and 18 year olds. They cost me more than the 13, 10, and 7 year olds do at this stage of my life.

I wish the car knew the door was open and threw up a warning on the dash if you shift out of park with it open.
I’ve always wondered why every modern car regardless if it’s an EV or an ICE vehicle, why said car doesn’t give the driver a warning light or a distinct audible tone to alert the driver of the charging or fuel door being open.

This alert should come upon start up, when the brake pedal is pressed, or when the vehicle is put into drive.

I had the same thing happen back in July and the charge port door won't stay closed. I have been waiting on a replacement part for over two months. The charge port door is being held shut by velcro with a small piece sticking out to pull it open!

Good engineering, even better than duct tape!

This has been addressed several times in this very thread, starting with the second reply.

Blame the kids, it's always their fault for making you run late. I run late due to traffic jams of cats and dogs going down the stairs to my office.

First time I actually forgot to close the charge door (while first time trying DC fast charge at Electrify America). As soon as I shifted to drive, the warning popped up.

Sorry to see the mishap. In my garage, if I don't suck in my gut (and I don't even really have a gut lol) I will rip that door off myself when walk by. The MME charge port door is definitely unnecessarily large.

Overall the build quality is excellent, but there are a couple things that seem "cheap" and the charge port door is one of them.

I occasionally forgot to properly close the charge port door when I had a Volt. The frequency didn't get much better over time, only my ability to ignore the warning.

The Tesla has a motorized door. It's there primarily for future autonomous charging, but it is quietly helpful for avoiding this oversight.

I don't think it has that specific option.

I know you can set it to charge to a maximum level that you might set, but I haven't seen a setting telling it to ignore charging UNLESS below a specific level. You can also tell it as a one-off to charge to 100% when you want it to, overriding the maximum level setting that instance.

You can tell it on which days you want preconditioning, when you want it (up to two times per day), and what general temperature zone you want it in, or you can leave this blank.

You can tell it not to charge except for specific windows of time to match your best electricity pricing if your area has different pricing windows (mine doesn't).

I think that's the limit of charging options. I think. If I'm wrong, someone will correct me.
You forgot about option to not charge at all and run out of power on the side of the road.

OH NO, IT DOES.

I've OFTEN seen "Charge Port Door Ajar" but for some reason, either it didn't this time or I just completely missed it and it cleared after a while, or I pressed "OK" to dismiss absentmindedly.

Believe me when I say that this wasn't my finest hour.

EDITED TO ADD: I got back into the car and tried to reproduce the issue several times. Once you turn on the power, if the door is open, it puts up CHARGE PORT DOOR AJAR in a big box on the screen. Did it every time. I'm now 100% sure I must have pushed the OK button to dismiss the annoying pop-up window out of a very bad habit of ignoring dialog boxes.
This only happened because of decades of Microsoft Windows popping up unnecessary messages asking if you are sure you are sure you want to do "whatever" action you already told it to do. So you see, they desensitized you to the important pop-ups from your car. I think you should sue Bill Gates for pop-up PTSD.

As you can tell, I am a scorned IT tech.
