Hello from Central Florida!

I’ve got an oddball question because I’ve never read/encountered this situation before. I’ve been looking at Select AWDs in FL that supposedly have been bought from a dealer in NJ (shown in the Window sticker).

this is one of the cars

The digital Monroney sticker doesn’t have this info but I saw it in person because I asked why they marked up the car by $3500 over MSRP.

Should I run from this dealership? Could I claim the $7500 tax credit or has that been lost since ownership has been transferred already? Do I need to check the CarFax?

Dealer trades happen all the time. They are not ownership changes in so far as a titled vehicle. They are simply trading inventory.

Our 2013 F-150 was traded from a dealer 150 miles away. Our 2018 Fusion Energi was traded from a dealer 400(?) miles away (or was it 500?)

When a dealer trades one of them could have to toss in money. I gave you a $50,000 vehicle, you gave me a $48,000 vehicle plus $2,000. They should have zero impact on sales price.

That doesn't matter. All that matters is if it was titled and will be sold as used rather than new.

That car was originally at a dealer in Vermont. Florida is quite a distance for a dealer trade.

You have no idea if it made a stop, or stops, at other dealers.

Also, some dealers have vast networks.

Well, since I saw it at the dealer in Vermont, I kinda do know. This particular dealer is tiny, and doesn't have a vast network. This doesn't change anything, I just thought it was interesting that it was traded so far away.

Tiny dealer in VT is approached by Massachusetts dealer for a trade. They accept. Mass dealer has locations in NY, NJ, and Florida. Dots connected.

It just matters if it was titled first. I would ask them if it was titled at all, if it was you won't get the $7,500. If it hasn't been titled you are good to go to claim on your tax return.
