As we get closer to the first batch of Mach-Es being delivered, starting to look into options for color change & also protection for minor dings. Anyone have experience with these? Looking for input on Cost, Durability, Quality. (Will be looking for professional installation...not DIY)
  • Rubberized Paint such as (Plasti Dip, Auto Dip)
  • Vinyl Wrap

I was leaning toward Armor Shield IX ceramic coating from Avalon King. It has some popular car people endorsing it, but I've never put ceramic coating on a case and didn't know if it was snake oil or not. I'd love to do a wrap but I can't really afford that.

Anyone got an opinion on ceramic coating? I've never heard of auto or plastic dip on a car.

stay away from plasti dip.

wrapping has come a long way and its nowe a realistic 3-4 year option.

I'm going with a professionally applied, quality ceramic coat. Some come with warranties if any damage occurs. My son works for a very reputable detailer and he swears by them, especially over PPF.

I used Armor Shield IX before 2 trips 2600 miles and 12 hours of rain. Works great.

Long term how well does it hold up?

Have you priced it out at all? I'd like to wrap mine but don't want to spend several thousand on one

Here is an interesting video on both of these products:

The video just reaffirms this as something I wouldn't want to DIY. I'm also not sure I'd pay a shop to vinyl wrap, either. It's quite expensive, and to do it well they're removing and replacing panels (which makes me nervous).

Minor rock chips don't bother me too much. But I do love the mirror like finish that some wraps offer. I'd like to achieve that look through normal wash and wax, though I think I do a suboptimal job at that, too. ;)

For reference, sent out request to 5 places for quotes, only 1 came back and it was for $3000 full wrap satin using 3M or Avery vinyl.

Seems like a lot. But for getting the color, design, or finish look that you really want, it could be really cool.

Some folks opt for clear wraps, I think mainly for paint protection purposes. How much do you figure that it might cost for paint repairs (buffing, polishing, sealing/waxing)?
