Honestly, it seems like if you don't care about the "smart" part, just having a socket installed is good enough. Then, you could always get a plug in smart charger if you want that.
I do care about the "smart part" and my permits are in with the township. My electrician comes next week to install the 50 amp breaker, run the wire and install the plug. I opted NOT TO hardwire. Theres a few more advantages to the ChargePoint I like. And as the norm. YOUR CAR IS SWEET. MATT.....?

I orded a Mach E GTP and Tesla Y. Wondering how I am gonna charge them. Dont wanna run more than 1 circuit.
I charge my Bolt and Mach e over one circuit that is split into two 240 outlets . Both cars are programed to charger at different times. Only one car draw power from circuit even both are plugged at same time. It work fine unless both cars need to be charged overnight evey night.

Reading all these notes on what L2 charger to buy - I have a question:
***What's wrong with the free L2/L1 charger that comes with the Mach-E?

Mel, this is only IMHO. I think for every days use. The charger Ford supplies with the car is not that robust. I have read "a few" times of failures with that unit. That is why it will stay in my car, if its ever needed on the road, emergency situation so to speak. I am anything but an expert on this stuff. Just commenting what I read and what I am doing to please myself. If others have opinions please chime in. After all we are learning together and sharing thoughts. The Level 2 chargers being sold for home installations have more going for them than what Ford gives with the car.

Other consideration is that if your local power company provides a rebate to offset the cost of an EVSE installation it might require a smart charger. That’s the case in NJ with PSE&G as several of us have been discussing in the tri-state sub forum. Right now they will only approve use of ChargePoint or Juicebox though they say they plan to add others over time.

Good point. I have JCP&L as our provider. As of yet they offer zip. Thats due to change January 2022. Its a wait and see for now. But my electrician comes in next week to run my line/outlet in the garage. I want to be ready.

I read that thread.

Still not convinced the Ford Mobile Charger is insufficient for *my* use.
I'm putting in the 240V outlet inside my garage.
99% of the time, I am driving less than 30-40 miles a day. Car is in the garage about 16 hours a day. Even with 120V charging, I'd be ok. With the Ford Mobile Charger at 240V, I'm more than ok.

Once or twice a year we take a road trip from Vegas to San Diego or sometimes to Utah - Cedar City. I believe I can remember to unplug the charger and put it in my car. Plugging/unplugging once or twice a year shouldn't put undue stress on the circuitry.

If the Ford Mobile Charger fails/breaks/etc., I can always get a L2 Charger pretty quickly (Amazon) and plug it into the outlet.

What am I missing?

True. But charging at home I think setting it at 30 is better. Slow charging the battery. Heck, whats the rush. Its right in the garage to use whenever you want. My opinion. But I do like that charger. Shes rated top notch.
I agree. I haver the ChargePoint Home Flex on a 60A circuit. 90% of the time, I leave it set to 30A. As long as the car is ready when I need it, there's no rush. I do like having that extra speed in case of unexpected change of plans...

I also have PSE&G in NJ. What kind of rate discounts do you get from them?
