We have usually driven all 785 miles straight through, with 2 stops: Grand Junction for fuel + fast food lunch, maybe 30-40 minutes, and Richfield UT for a 10 minute refuel/bathroom. Then to our Vegas hotel for dinner and bed. Takes about 12 hours (8am-7pm going west). It is an aggressive "just get there" approach.

On the way back we sometimes break it up with a hotel because there's 2 hours less daylight going east than west. Depends on the time of year.

When we try it in the Mach-E, ABRP shows 6 refuel stops instead of 2 in the Escape. Most around 30 minutes. Makes the total time almost 15 hours which is too long for one day. We'll have to do hotel each way. (We have since decided to get the ER battery, BTW. Actually an FE.)

Oh I could never do a nap. I'd be groggy for hours, and likely get a headache. I know some people are nappers. I'm not. But I sure sleep well at the hotel after drive days.

We are walkers though. Probably kill time doing walks on the ones there's nothing else to do.

The price by time model does have its merits. Using a price by time model, EA discourages drivers from hogging a charger for the last bit of capacity.

If it takes just as long to fill up the last 20% of a battery as it does the first 80%, then EA needs to find a way to motivate people to free up the charger.

Our problem is that Ford has a slow charge time for the Mach-E with it taking 45 mins to go from 10% -> 80%. That's $31.50 and costs too damn much.

Holy crap! Different prices in different states. Never knew and assume it is due to the "cost" of obtaining electric service in that state/location. How long before pricing is changed to kW obtained?

I charged yesterday at a ZEF energy that charged $5 hookup and $.30/min. I only had so much time and the other alternative I had wasn't fast enough. I knew a short charge would be a killer, 26 minutes, 17.79 kw for a total energy cost of $7.80 plus the $5 so $12.80 total. Since it's winter and that only figures out to 41 kw/hr and my car only gets around 2miles/kw in the winter that figures out to about 36 miles that I added for $12.80. So at $3.40 gas now that would figure out to about 9.5 mpg. That's impressive! Per minute charging does not work in the winter especially. Charging at home even in the winter it still figures out to over 100mpg. Price gouging perhaps?

Is that going to be the norm if there gets to be a lot more EV's. At that ZEF station thanks to the hookup fee they got $.72/kw.
