I have not watched it yet, but hopefully, the video shows the attempts taken to find a charger that works?!?! Took me 3 tries Sat to find a working EA charger this weekend. At the second stop, I called because the other spots were taken. The poor lady on the other end working for EA I felt bad for. She was clearly just as done with the broken chargers as I was.

Full disclosure I was trying to use up the rest of my EA free bucket.

One of the advantages of Tesla opening up their network to Ford and others is it introduces competition into the CCS charging world. When you are often the only "game in town", you can afford to under fund your maintenance activities and not maintain your equipment as we have seen with EA. Now with competition from Tesla, GM Ultium and growing numbers of other providers we should see more competition and better maintenance of the equipment. EA will need to improve their "game".

Great video.
IMHO, the EVGo autocharge+ has advantage that it recognizes membership, unfortunately neither Tesla or EA can do it right now.
I don’t use EVgo often, but I did yesterday and it activated very quickly and easily by hitting the activate button in FordPass. Is there any advantage to joining autocharge+? Plug and charge is cool, but not really much different than using FordPass.

My only issue with the video is that for Tesla they used the vehicle to indicate charging and EA and EVgo they used the charger. IDK if they will all indicate at the same times, including the different charger models. Letting the car tell you seems like it would have been the most consistent.

They did comment the delay in seeing the charging info in the Ford Pass app while they were at the Tesla station. So the Tesla activation is likely quicker than 25 seconds.

I think that Kyle Conner in one of his most recent Out of Spec videos mentioned that the certificate verification between Ford and Tesla isn't being done via the 3rd party service that EA uses. That could explain why the activation is quicker on Tesla.

EVGO has a discount membership, just like EA, and it works with Autocharge+.

Membership at every charging provider gives discounts unlike FordPass. EA and Tesla: about 25-30% , EVGo has couple levels:10-30%.
autocharge+ allows to have plug and play functionality and EVGo membership pricing

AutoCharge+ is so much better than using your phone app, Ford Pass, Charge Assist, nav, or swiping a card to start the charge.

It allows for true P&C - I can forget my wallet, credit cards, phone - but as long as I drive the car to the charger, I can just plug in and charge.

With an AAA/ACSC membership, EVGo will discount the charge by $0.99 (waived fee).

Perfect if you loan your EV to someone that doesn't have your phone, app, or use their credit card.

I use EVGo exclusively in So Calif because there are way more working towers than EA.

Pretty much gave up on EA due to the huge lines of "free charges" from all brands.

We did that because Superchargers don't have screens so that is the only way to do it. For most people that are plugging in and want to make sure their car is charging before they walk away, this is the way they'd have to do it. In reality, most of us would also wait to see if it was ramping up to full power as well.

But we sorta wanted to focus on how long does it take to get those first bits of juice. The Supercharger seems so fast, but really there are about 30 seconds difference between an SC and a an EA station.

I also have to say, that many of us have been complaining to Ford for up to 3 years that we need to be able to see charging speed on the car's screen and with Supercharger access, it is even more needed.

This video has me a bit scared of what the charging experience is going to be like as a brand new MachE owner, coming from a Tesla. The Superchargers I would arrive, get out of the car, plug it in, get back in the car and it is charging. Seems like a bit more involved in the various places of having to do things on the screen vs just plugging in and sitting.

You can just plug in and sit in your car. Watch their video on the plug and charge experience. Now what's different is that once you sit down you can check the app to make sure your car is charging, but it's not required. You can make sure that the light rings near the charge port are flashing blue as another method that indicates a charge is taking place.

Yes, EVGo Autocharge+ is great. It's been months since I used it but just plug in and you are charging. While you don't need the EVGo app to initiate I seem to remember the app giving you a charge curve of KW rate vs time.
