Is today April 1st?

...Not going to make, going to make, going to make it cheaper, not going to make.

Seriously?
I guess it has been April 1 at Tesla for weeks now. Maybe they accidentally restored the website to a previous state from two months ago, who knows. Indeed the standard range model is not available in their configurator today.

Yup. Cancelled in Canada too. Smells like production problems.

They probably released it to draw people in hoping they would opt for the higher model, then when the take rate got too high they dropped it because they can't make money on it. They are probably using the same physical battery on both and the only cost saving is the single motor.

I think Elon Musk sensed the indecisiveness from those that had ordered the MME SR and just wanted to make that decision easy. Touché Tesla.

This isn't a simple bait and switch. In some provinces, the cheaper version was eligible for govt rebates, while the more expensive version was not. It's almost a 22k price difference where I live.

I think they just want to drive the low end clientele back towards the model 3 SR+

I don’t think they are using the same battery, especially seeing how precious they are now. The weights aren’t the same between SR and LR models- 500lbs or so, and that extra motor doesn’t weigh that much. I know for the off menu M3 they did lock out 10% of the battery or so but that was because they really didn’t want to sell it that one, and had to stick their foot in their mouth since they initially assured people it would be that price.

Buying A Tesla Is Like Ordering From The Secret Menu At Starbucks Now, Apparently (jalopnik.com)

...

But apparently if you’re in the know, Tesla will still sell you one of the cheap rear drivers.

...

This isn’t a damn Skittles Frappuccino off the Starbuck secret menu, or a Animal Style sauce at In-n-Out, it’s a forty thousand dollar vehicle. A massive investment in the future of your driving should not be treated with such flippancy from Tesla. It’s absurd.

This would, of course, be the perfect opportunity to ask Tesla’s public relations team for clarity on this subject. You know, if the company actually had a public relations team. But because the company’s public relations have devolved to encompass only the CEO’s twitter feed, we’re forced to believe that Musk’s word is bond. From the iPhone fingers of billionaire idiots comes only the truth, I guess.

Forget about the "secret menu", King Elon should have just ordered a revision of the spec sheet to show a range of 250 miles. Just about everyone - except those who claim heat pump is the greatest thing ever invented - already knows Tesla's range figures are optimistic at best, if not downright misleading.

The SR model 3 and Y use a 60 kWh pack, approximately 55 kWh usable. The LR and Performance models use a larger 78 or 82 kWh pack.
