General impression: Decent, pretty well made EV. Definitely worth considering.

Exterior.
I loved it right when I've seen it for the first time on a picture. In reality it also looks quite cool. I tested the white one. The white color does not look as cool as the silver colors on Ioniq 5. In terms of exterior I don't even know how to compare it with Mach E. Mach E looks classier, more stylish, but more similar to other cars. The Ioniq 5 design seems just like a perfect shape for the car plus a little futuristic. Some exterior features are interesting. Like opening and closing the charging port. There is a little button inside When you press it - it closes. Outside there are embossed pixels on the lid You press those pixels and the lid presses that button inside in a proper spot. This opens the lid.

However some of the features are not designed well - it took me quite a while to figure out how to open the trunk. The button is so tiny on the bottom side of the trunk door.

Interior.
First thing you notice about the interior - it is soo roomy. There is so much leg room on the back seats. More then in Mach - e and much more then in Tesla Y.

The interior seems rougher then mach e..... not as appealing. Seems like a big square bus.

The sensor and tap buttons look a little ugly but at least they are made not to peal off like Mach e buttons (see this thread https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/steering-wheel-buttons-wear.13320/). The two screens are also ugly. Big square screen in front shows a lot of noise (unnecessary pictures, lines, curves) that makes useful info seem lost.

I guess you can get used to it. Mach e definitely feels MUCH nicer and more comfortable in the driving seat. Another weird thing about Ioniq 5 interior - it has two separate climate controls for a driver and a passenger, but no climate control for the back seats.

Driving.
The gear switch looks a little ugly sticking from the center of the steering wheel. It is similar to the one in ID 4, but a little bigger, more conveniently located and less annoying. The rear view camera is a little disappointing. Like on the 10 year old cars. There is some sort of view from the top, but you can see only the back of the car. No comparison to Mach e features.
It was really surprising to find out that acceleration in a sport mode is the same as on mach e (the regular one)....... So you can have a lot of fun on that car too..... although when I tried to accelerate really hard I believe I've heard some rattling from the wheels. Anyway driving was really cool, although my right leg started getting tired very fast for some reason, and I still had this weird feeling like I was driving a little bus with sporty car specs.

Summary
I definitely would prefer getting Mach E. But if dealership will not honor the initial offer I would not have any problems going Ioniq 5

Hi OP,

I ordered a CA Rt1 in December 2021, expecting to get it in May 2022.

Meanwhile, I got a chance to test drive a Premium AWD, and lord, it was bouncy!

Also, I test drove an Ioniq5 recently, found it to be far more comfortable.

Since CA Rt1 has smaller tires, I think the ride may be better in it compared to the Premium.

What do you think about the suspension, ride quality of your CA Rt1 vs Ioniq5?

Test drove two (SE RWD and SE AWD) and I can see the appeal. A luxury sedan EV with a comfortable ride. Caters to people who donā€™t want/need a sporty ride nor push to your seat acceleration.

Has unique features not found in many other EVs. 800V architecture. 3600W inverter (vehicle to load), gentle ride, premium inferior (SEL trims or higher. The base SE is cloth and barebones), HUD.

I found I could not see half the dashboard because of the steering wheel blocking my view and the turning radius is as bad a Model Y. I was considering buying one to try for a few months.

Itā€™s a worthy alternative to the MME/Y/ID4/Polestar.

How long does it take to get one?
There are 3000 arriving in the next two weeks. Probably a 1000 already here in the US already. Iā€™ve personally seen two dozen in Florida across 4 dealerships. I really like Shooting Star matte and the Lucid Blue.

Itā€™s way more available than a Mach-E which are still unicorns. Iā€™ve been looking occasionally for one. Nothing.

On an interesting note I have a Premium MME and switched to select 18" wheels and find the ride much better. Also with the 18" wheels. Efficiency seemed to go up, I only had them on the car a few weeks before winter hit so it's a little hard to compare.

Inspired by this I bought a set of CR1 wheels and Very LRR summer tires for when the weather gets better.

I don't know what it is about the Ionic 5, specs look great but I don't find it to be an attractive car, maybe it looks better in person. Or maybe just personal preference, I do like the looks of the Kia EV6.

What's the total cost ? And did yo go to the dealer for it ? Does it change the warranty in any way? Thanks!

Bought new MME Select 18" takeoff wheels off eBay for $550 a set, currently running winter tires that sell for about $185 each. TPMS I bought off rock auto for $80 for a set

The CR1 wheels were a little more $650 for the set also factory take off and summer tires are about $180 each

I also bought a set of lugnuts in black for $45, and Black center caps for $25

The wheels don't affect the warranty of the car if you use factory size tires. IE 225/60/18 103H, 225/55/19 103H, 245/45/20 103V are the three factory sizes.

One other thing is if you are looking at making a change when it comes to efficiency Low Rolling Resistance Tires are a must.

I like it (although those rims give me BBS-style vibes, and PTSD on cleaning them).

Just remember, low rolling resistance tires sacrifice precious grip. Stopping distances of some models as tested by Tire Rack can be 10-30Ft worse than their comparable standard tires. The 1-5% gain in range just isnā€™t worth that much of a sacrifice in a critical area imo. I know tire compound tech has made great strides but, it ainā€™t there yet.

I have my eye on a MY23 Ioniq 5 SEL or Limited. There were visual stylizing that was indicated to apply towards SEL, that actually didn't happen for MY22, specifically the silver vs black plastic exterior body trim.

MY23 will bring enhanced OTA update capabilities and driver assist capabilities.

The tires on the Limited AWD (top trim) are P255/45R20. The tires on all of the other trims and configs are P235/55R19.

The wider and larger tires hurt range badly (303 to 256). With battery size that is sub-80 kWh and mediocre efficiency - the range isn't great.

However... my Mach-E still not in production and there are dozens of Ioniq 5s at my dealer (38!) so I might just snag one and drive it for 4 months.
