Another thing I noticed reset was my wifi connection to my home network. I had to select and enter the password again. I had problems until I realize the keyboard was shift locked to upper case.

I do not know if some of these were due to my updates, the incoming Power Up 1.7.1, or both. It is wise to check your settings after updates, especially APIM and PCM ones.

Just checked my WIFI connection, it is still there and connected. I think we are at the same version, at least from our FDRS work.

The dealer brought every module up to date in early August, before I got my FDRS rig and went solo. So, maybe our exact order of module update is not the same. I did reload my WIFI connection since August while trying to fix Paak (it had completely disappeared, not even an option was there, which I solved later myself, probably by configuring the RFA module, one of my first FDRS projects).

Do you mean that you used the NOCO Boost HD with the FDRS instead of a Power supply ?? I am curious.... ?
No, I was asked why I cut the holes above the terminals for the LVB and it was in case I needed to jump start the battery I would not have to remove the entire panel.

Question for someone with FDRS experience... what would be the best order to start with ?

I am already sweating only thinking about it... any advice ?? ;)

I've ordered my cable and will join in in a week or two to attempt mine. I have a older everstart battery charger with 2/15/100amp modes and was debating if the 15amp mode would do well enough since the 100 is only supposed to be used for a short time. Or maybe I need to buy a proper power supply that doesnt put out charging current. Gotta think on this a bit.

15amp would do you for some of the smaller updates like PCM, but absolutely no chance for IPMA. That takes hours.

I had the same thoughts you are having and was finally convinced to get the idea of a charger out of my head. If you plan on doing your own updates long-term, I personally believe investing in a power supply is a smart idea.

Within FDRS, you can see the battery voltage. I hooked up my power supply but didn't start it for a small update, just to see what the voltage would do (ready to turn it on, though). I was a little surprised to see the voltage start dropping as quickly as it did.

Several people on the forum have had success other ways, by the way. I'd just say that if you are on the fence, spend the money and get a power supply and put yourself at ease.

Crap I completely forgot about my ham radio sitting here on my desk. Powered by a: https://www.amazon.com/MFJ-Enterprises-Original-MFJ-4230MV-Switching/dp/B00S556BN2

That'll do the job decently enough, just have to order a set of clips.

I’m sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but does the car charger need to be plugged in as well as the 12v battery charger or should it specifically not be plugged in?

Most if not all of the updates are performed with the J1772 unplugged.

Not a dumb question at all. Since it uses the LVB for most of the modules that benefits the most from having a power supply connected. The HVB connection won't really play a factor as it will draw from it to maintain the LVB but a power supply is more a safeguard in case of a large power draw it can't recover from during programing. Just in case of a very rare LVB failure having the power connected ensures it won't brick anything.
