Will the updates/FDRS work on a mac running parallels (my Macbook pro is an M1 and cannot bootload)?
Unfortunately you need to boot windows to bare metal, so a VM will not work. I tried a number of times and methods, but the license always fails to activate - the software looks like it is using some method to determine if it is in an emulated environment and then refuses to activate. Bootcamp on an Intel mac does work since you can boot directly to Windows, but Parallels will not work.

Time to get a cheap Windows laptop...

The gear for the DIY FDRS update should all arrive this week. So I have a noob question.

The BC update procedure calls for two APIM resets back to back. Does it matter if those are done via the buttons on the wheel or is there a way to trigger this in FDRS?

There's an option in FDRS to perform an APIM reset.

In prep, I installed the battery access holes this weekend... I was not surprised that the dealer had lost some. I was surprised that they lost 5 of them.

do you know where these can be had online?

People have posted links to Ford part numbers, but I don't know off hand.

Three hours in and some observations….

The various (erroneous) alerts during the process from the car’s displays aren’t for the faint of heart.

High amperage external power is a must - the car’s coolant system is currently running.

Process is quite straight forward on the laptop. Pleased with the original post’s documentation and the YouTube video - Thank you! The car has been restarting itself followed by a flurry of alerts before the app prompts to shutoff the ignition.

This is on a first batch FE built 1/21 for which OTA only got it to 2.4.4 as of yesterday.

FYI: the IPMA is VERY picky about power during an update. Make sure you have a good power supply to your 12V
My coolant pump(s) has been running throughout the two hours and counting on that update. Very glad I went with the 100A 12v flashing supply.

I have that same unit. It is rock solid keeps the 12v battery right at 13.4 volts regardless of what is running. Definitely worth the expense.

I have question for you, does the LCD go dark when power / operation is maintaining the car after a while?

or does you LCD stay infinity on

Takes about 10 minutes I think.

thanks

I buy these clips two bags of four at a time, preferably with other stuff I need to justify the shipping cost. Last order was:
W720957S300
2
$ 8.75
Pin. Panel. Cowl. Clip. Cover. (Rear)
I just google around to find the best price at the time. My last order was from Roesch Ford.

I had put some small strips of gaffers tape around the ends which helped, but some strips came off in the winter, and last dealer visit they broke one tape strip with the fastener gone.

There was a solution with wire like paper clips. But, I keep hoping for some kind of black plastic pin solution to hold them in, or maybe some kind of end black clip to retain them in the slot.

Various clip failure modes.

Any ME's or designers in the forum who can solve this problem for us?

It goes dark but if you hit one of the voltage up or down buttons it comes back on. But the unit is working as expected.
