Does anybody know why Ford recommends a tire rotation at 10k miles instead of the usual 6-8k?

And does anybody do it earlier?

Thanks in advance

No one here, other than Ford, is going to know why Ford does something.

I'll be rotating the tires at 5k, just like I've always done on every vehicle I owned.
That’s what I'm thinking too. Just wanted to see if I was missing something.

Thanks

Every 10k is about right, I went like 15k and that was too long. Every 5k would be too often IMO unless you just destroy tires or are OCD about rotation. Every 7.5k would be reasonable too.

I don't really keep track of miles, I just rotate when it looks like they need it.

I rotate when I switch between winters and summers (although my winter tires are directional, so a lame rotation). I drive 450 miles a month, so am rotating summers every 3,600 miles. The Mach-e has near 50/50 weight distribution which helps the tires wear out more evenly. I suspect that’s part of the reason.

I’m rotating every 7,500 miles on this car. On other cars I’ve done it as often as 5,000 miles. Why would I let FMC tell me how to maintain my tires? Tire rotation has nothing to do with warranty issues on the car.

I picked up a tire tread depth gauge a few years ago

https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai...qiCvuWLAxUFMzQIHfTQCYcQ9aACKAB6BAgGEFc&adurl=

and started rotating all of my vehicles whenever the axles wear to a mis-match of 1/32". On my AWD Mach-E the rear wears just a little faster than the front. In my case the rotations ended up around 10,000 and 30,000 miles. I would expect a RWD might need rotations a little more often. Now at 45,000 miles I have 2.3/32" on the rear and 2.7/32" on the front with pretty even wear across the tread and it's time for new rubber. A more frequent schedule is recommended but I'm satisfied that I got pretty even wear and full life of the tires from this.

That’s a good idea, I might pick one up.

How often doesn't matter much (within reason, probably no more than 15k miles on all season tires rated to last 60,000+ miles), as long as its done consistently at the same interval. The interval usually matters if AWD or 4WD, as you don't want the tires to get too far out of spec (different diameter) relative to one another with traditional drivetrains. I'm honestly not sure that facet of tire rotation matters with EVs, since the front and rear drives are not connected by a rear axle and there's no transfer case/differential to be concerned about.

10K seems about right....I'm sure there are studies out there, and 10K probably came up as the accepted "average" as being beneficial. On my ICE cars, I just rotate with oil changes in the 5K-7.5K range, but I'll go the full 10K for the MME.

When I used to do all of my own maintenance, I rotated every other oil change. I never had any tire wear problems.

What? You're supposed to rotate tires?
I'll do it at the next oil change.
