Don’t look too worn to me but BEWARE buying part worn tyres.

I have worked on programs with the authorities checking out part worn tyres sold and haven’t found a legal one yet with some right death-traps.

They are changed for a reason!
In my case, they were changed because they are summer tires and winter is here. They have 5K miles on them, around 7/32 tread depth and no damage.

Also don't know what you mean by "legal one" -- but maybe that is a UK thing. I'm in the US.

For “legal” read safe and roadworthy which is what any Nation’s laws are there to achieve

Am struggling to make my tyres last 2 years.

Really VERY disappointing that they don’t last……………………60,000 miles 😳

Well that is very interesting! I have Continental Premium Contact 6 Tyres as standard. 225/55 R19 103V XL.

I've just been doing some extra research into these tyres and a few people have said they have found them to wear out faster than others they've had. I've also found that these tyres come with a tread depth of 7.4mm. Looking at the recent report from Ford's Health Check, it seems I have 5.5mm tread remaining on the rear and 6mm remaining on the front.
At that rate I figure the fronts are wearing at around 3428mi/mm and 2526mi/mm for the rears. So, to wear down to the legal UK minimum of 1.6mm, the fronts would expect to last for 19882mi and the rears to last 14650mi.

I guess that's not so bad after all, just seemed like such a high wear % on the report for such little miles, but when I work it out, it doesn't look too bad. Still seems the rears would wear out much faster than the fronts, but I guess that's the RWD, and I'm still sure my old cars Budget Tyres used to last me around 25000 miles or so.

Anyone got any good recommendations of the next tyres to put on the Mach E Premium RWD when I do come to change them?
I can’t fault the Bridgedale Turanza T005 summer tyres that came with mine. I swap them in winter to Pirelli Scorpion Winter 2 tyres which are incredible in the snow and ice however I would probably go with Michelin CrossClimate 2 all season tyres and keep them on year round (they weren’t available in the right size when I first wanted them).

Been on Mich CC2s for c70,000 miles, they perform how their tread looks, up to the job👌

Really can’t be arsed with changing tyres twice a year, haven’t the time and Stangy’s wheels don’t stop turning long enough!

New tyres generally come with 7mm tread depth so with 5.4 mm of usable tread.

Your tyre tread depths are 7/32” or 5.5mm so are around 28% worn.

That’s a projected lifecycle of c20,000 if my calculations are correct.

Not great but if you drive enthusiastically is not horrendous.

I'm also UK based and have only had my 2023 RWD since April this year, so 7 months. I've only done 4,876 miles so far. It's just been in for a Vehicle Health check as part of some Recall Software Updates and I was told that my rear tires are already 40% worn and my fronts are 30% worn!

I'm still on the stock tires that came with the car and at the pressures they set when they sold it to me, which is also differential pressures with 35psi at the front and 40psi on the rears.

I primarily drive locally around town, but have done a few longer weekend (motorway) trips away in it.

I am rather concerned that they are already so worn though after such a short time and use. However I am wondering, whether living on a new build estate where the roads still aren't built, are wearing them down far faster than I expect.

That said, my old Seat Leon used to have Budget tires on them and they used to last me for years/tens of thousands of miles before they wore, even on this same unpaved estate! These too were also differential pressures between front/back as specified by the owners manual.
Their percentage wear is an estimate, I expect.

Buy yourself a PCL the tread depth tool with green base to MOT spec for accuracy for c£3 and measure them yourselves.

Each 1mm off 7mm(new tread) is 18.5% wear.

I made the mistake of getting the Hankook Evo RF from the dealership. My tires were bald after about 20K and 16 mos. I didn't rotate them as much as I should but I was pissed.

Ended up going to utires and got some Continental RF for less than 20% of what the dealer charged, hope it works out

I’ve had my MachE 3 years and have 41k miles. I’ll probably replace at 50k next October before it starts raining. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the heaviest foot on accelerator, I’m a 7. I don’t see an issue with excessive tire wear

I had 39,670 on my 2021 when I traded for my 2024 Mach-e. Original tires on the 2021.

We have 44,000 miles and still plenty of tread left on all four tires. Lots of highway and lots of gravel road driving. Minimal hard acceleration.
