To PPF or not to PPF, that is the question

I have a GTPE coming, that will get ceramic coated. But I'm debating on whether or not to PPF and/or not and how much?

I would go PPF over ceramic coating (which I did). I don't see all that much value in ceramic coating. It makes the car easier to clean, and provides some protection against the elements. I'm more concerned about physical damage from rocks and other road debris. I got a small chip on my hood after only 1 month before I got PPF. Money well spent for me.

The rock chips are exactly why I'm most interested in doing at least mirror forward, but not sure that is worth the $2000-$3000 it would cost me.... and I definitely don't have the patience to do what the Patrick and Liv did.

Mine is currently at the shop getting the nose, and hood covered. I've been detailing my own, and other's cars for years, so I'll ceramic coat the rest myself. That front end and giant hood just look like trouble. I'll post up pics when it returns tomorrow and explain my lines better.?

It’s really a personal preference issue. If paint chips don’t bother you I wouldn’t spend the money. My wife’s MB didn’t have PPF and it had at least a dozen significant chips on the front end when we sold it for the MME. It bothered me everytime I washed the car. My 2014 X3 got the complete front end PPF’d and I still don’t have a single chip in the paint.

For me neither passes the cost/benefit analysis.
I can have my car washed a lot of times for what it costs to have it ceramic coated.
PPF is crazy expensive and detracts from the appearance on every car I've seen it on. Seams and edges are glaringly obvious. Always makes me think of the pics you see of people's living room furniture with the plastic on it.
It really comes down to personal preference. Lotsa people love it.

We plan on front only with PPF and ceramic for the whole car. Adding window tint to the front car doors too and getting a sun shade for the sun roof. With the Florida summer heat, we’ll need it.

I haven't actually seen that the value of a car be more because of PPF. My ZL1 has PPF and the dealer wanted to charge me $2600 for it but I ended up paying $0. When I went to sell the car, the additional value from the PPF was exactly $0.

I don't think people really understand how easy it is to do the ceramic coating yourself. All you do is wipe it on, let it haze, wipe it off. Instant 1-3 years of paint protection (depending on how well you take care of your car).

It's also two completely different things. PPF protects against physical damage from bugs and rocks, ceramic coating protects your clear coat from fading away from elemental damage and also makes it way easier to clean. If you don't want to do ceramic coating at least put a paint sealant on your car every 4-6 months depending on where you live and if it's outside or in the garage.

Saying no to both is like saying you don't give a damn about your car. PPF isn't for everyone but at a minimum at least protect the paint with a sealant of some kind.

I keep my fusion protected with a sealant (not ceramic) and I can go through a touchless car wash once a week and it looks like I completely cleaned my car because nothing sticks to it. I'll do a full hand wash maybe once a month. With the MME I'll be doing a ceramic coating. I didn't do it on the fusion because I'm getting rid of it anyway.

Also doing PPF on the front end back to the mirrors because I can only imagine how many bugs and rocks are going to be tagging that giant front area.

The resale value is more to the point of how many chips do you want on your car when you go to sell it? To me PPF is for me not as much for resale. I just don't want to spend the money it costs on a GT to end up having rock chips all over the front of it.
