As long as the car is still functional, you can go into the center screen and activate EMERGENCY TOW. That will allow you to put the car into neutral so the tires roll freely. Then they can pull it out by the underside tow holes just forward of the front tires.
If you're in the ditch nose-first though, it gets trickier. I guess they'd have to lift the rear end and pull it out that way. Anyone know if it's OK to pull the car backwards from those front tow holes? Would the cables damage the battery or anything strung across the underside?
The dolly situation is usually more for when you can't get the car into neutral because it's not functioning right.
this is a great reason to consider adding a tow hitch receiver.
you then have a functional SUV that can accept a bike rack, cargo rack, and has tow loops in the back for rescues.
