Sounds like he’s a fairly normal guy who can’t handle social media it’s kind of like road rage you think you are anonymous but you’re really not you’re just a knucklehead Who someone just shot at on the road.

Anyone who gets emotional about the kind of propulsion vehicles use might have some deeper issues though

Jes sayin
Never thought about that. You’re probably right. When I knew him back at the Veterans Home he seemed very normal to me then. I never experienced him driving and whether he might have some road rage specifically aimed at BEV cars. I watched something on YouTube about how people are trying to intimidate those of us driving an electric car (not sure what they called it but trucks passing and spewing out a cloud of either diesel or gasoline smoke); tailgating us; cutting us off; flipping the “bird” at us, etc., etc. It seems like it is almost a form of discrimination against those of us who choose to drive an electric car.

Maybe everybody assumes that you can do a Google search as well as they can, so no one included any references. Well, here are two. One shows that BEV are 40% cheaper to maintain than ICE vehicles:
https://www.motortrend.com/news/government-ev-ice-maintenance-cost-comparison/
The other shows that fuel for BEV is more than 3 times cheaper than fuel for ICE vehicles:
https://electrek.co/2021/07/27/ev-vs-ice-how-far-can-you-travel-in-each-state-for-100/
Even though these are short and to the point, they are probably too much for your ex-friend to read.
So the short answer is that BEVs are cheaper to maintain and drive than ICE vehicles, and are also more fun to drive because they are so responsive and quiet. So you are having fun while saving money and the air quality of the planet at the same time.
Like your sources/citations but I have blocked him so I don’t think I’ll need these to refute what he is saying after all. I do wonder about the validity of the accusations that generating the electricity needed for our electric cars is more polluting than what we are saving driving them; that lithium is a dangerous material especially if it catches fire and that the mining of it exploits the poor people in those countries which have it; that you cannot recycle lithium batteries; that battery technology has a long way to go before it is feasible for everyone. I think some of these do have some merit though.

Seems like an awfully trivial issue over which to lose a friend. I think we used to be better at avoiding sensitive topics, or just agreeing to disagree.

It's a shame.

Perhaps he's thinking of old coal fired plants generating electricity. Personally, for the last 8 years I have generated over 90% of the electricity I use from solar panels on the roof of my house. We recently drove from San Diego to Phoenix. The number of wind and solar farms along the way is truly impressive. Is lithium more dangerous and flammable than gasoline? What percentage of ICE cars have large fires when in an accident compared to electric cars? Infinitely more. If one thinks lithium mining is bad, perhaps one should read Rachel Maddow's book, "Blowout: Corrupted Democracy, Rogue State Russia, and the Richest, Most Destructive Industry on Earth." Guess what industry she is talking about? Yes, battery technology will get better, but it is already good enough to make electric cars that have many advantages over ICE vehicles.

Well I'm not the one sending him unsolicited articles in Messenger. I tried to reason with him and agree to disagree but that did not stop the articles and his messages. He is deliberately trying to pull my chain and after awhile I just got sick of it and realized he's not a real friend. To me playing those games purposely to incite me is not a trivial issue and blocking him was a simple solution. He was never a true friend so I have lost nothing except the aggravation.

They call it "Rolling Coal" and has happened to me a couple of times.
Meh.

I have a situation where a former "friend" keeps sending me articles via Messenger in Facebook about trashing electric cars and all the reasons one shouldn't buy one. At first I reasoned with him and tried to point out the accurate points and fallacies in the articles he was sending me (unsolicited I might add). Today I reached my limit and blasted him back as similar to somebody from the era where Henry Ford introduced the first "horseless buggies" and how the people ridiculed ICE cars back then which is what he is doing now with the electric cars coming on the scene. I'm not the type of person who looks for trouble and I would never think of doing what he is but I'm now to the point where I've had my limit. I hope my response today shuts him up but if it doesn't, does anybody have some articles or arguments I should shoot back at him with? I "de-friended" him and will try to ignore all of his rants and taunts. It is a real shame because we were good friends when we volunteered together at the Illinois Veterans Home for several years before they closed it due to Covid. I know he is a caring guy but I never saw this side of him before. Change is really hard for some people.
Tell him. It’s my choice spent with my money and feel free to spend your money anyway you want.
