Last week I went on a road trip from San Jose, CA to Salt Lake City, UT. If you have a regular battery and do not want to get stranded in Nevada, I would recommend the following stops, all using the Electrify America charging stations:
In California: 100% at home / Sacramento / Truckee
In Nevada: Fernley / Winemucca / Elko / West Wendover
In Utah: Salt Lake City
That represents 7 stops each way which was too much in my view but necessary to reach destination. Careful planning is needed in Nevada where stations are few and far between. I got stranded in Lovelock, NV where stations are being installed but not working yet although they appear in the Ford Pass app! Had to spend $400.00 to have the Mach E towed to Winemucca, NV. I"ll get reimbursed by AAA, I think.
In Park City, UT while 21 F outside, the battery would lose 10 miles of range per night and the maximum range I got was 123 miles at 80% SoC. I didn't know the range reduction was going to be so severe. Good thing I could find an EVGo station in Kimball Junction which is very close to Park City.
As far as the Mach E itself, it performed flawlessly, the powertrain is solid as a rock. I only regret the absence of a full-size spare tire. I had a devastating puncture on the return trip on the border of Utah/Nevada and had to have the car towed once again to a shop in Wendover, UT where the tire was pronounced "beyond repair". Good thing they had a used tire, king of bald, to only allow me to get back home. After this experience, I'm looking to get a full-size spare.
The trip was 1600 miles and it amount to a crash course on the Mach E for sure. Finally, I don't think the Mach E Select, with a regular battery, is the right car for this trip but that's what I had. At the time I placed the reservation, I look into the extended range but they were much more expensive.
