*EDIT* This has since been rescinded by Ford. It was replaced with TSB 21-2288 found here: https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...charging-built-on-or-before-11-aug-2021.9111/

Model:

Mustang Mach-E - Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) with High Voltage (HV) TechnologyYear: 2021
Build Date: Up to 11.08.2021
Build Code: Up to MG
Assembly Plant: Cuautitlan (Mexico)

Summary

Some 2021 Mustang Mach-E vehicles built on or before 11.08.2021 (build code MG) may exhibit a strong fan noise whilst charging in level 3. Noise occurs when charging current is approximately 10.5 kW or above.

To rectify this concern, follow the Service Instruction to reprogram various modules starting with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Service Instruction

Diagnostic Tool - Vehicle Connection/Communication

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool to the vehicle and establish communication (VID the vehicle).
    • Confirm the vehicle details are correct.
    • Read out any stored DTCs.
    • Clear any stored DTCs related to this concern.
  2. NOTE: To prevent the battery saver mode from activating on the vehicle, verify that the negative cable of the charger is installed on a chassis or engine ground, and not the 12-volt battery negative terminal. Do not plug the vehicle into the high voltage battery charger during programming, this can cause modules to not program correctly. Only use the 12-volt battery charger during programming.
Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) using the latest software level of the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool.
(1). Information on screen will display that multiple modules will be updated.
(2). The PCM software update application will start. Follow all on screen instructions.
(3). When instructed to turn the IGN ON. The vehicle ignition must be ON and vehicle NOT READY to drive (IGN Start button, Green LED, Flashing) and the vehicle in Park (P).
(4). When completed, FDRS will automatically start the next module software update procedure.
  3. NOTE: Only one module may be updated at a time.
NOTE: The maximum number of modules to be updated can vary depending on the vehicle specification and is in no set order.
Check the availability for software updates on the following modules and update as required:
    • Battery energy control module (BECM)
    • Anti-lock brake system module (ABS)
    • Secondary on-board diagnostic control module A (SOBDM)
    • Secondary on-board diagnostic control module B (SOBDMB)
    • Secondary on-board diagnostic control module C (SOBDMC)
  4. (1). Follow the on-screen instructions throughout each module update procedure.
(2). If for any reason a software update was to fail, debug and resolve the concern and retry by selecting the module software update application again in the software Updates list. All modules that did not update will now be attempted again.
  5. Disconnect the Diagnostic Tool and battery charger.

I was waiting for this. The noise was really annoying.
Could we getting this by OTA?

Probably, the question is “when?” If I had to hazard a guess, I think that most OTAs are spoken for for some time to come yet. It may be down the road.

I don’t think they (Ford) understand the point of OTA updates if they can do this OTA, but choose not to. That said, I’m not so sure they can do this OTA… the instructions say to make sure the HVB is NOT plugged into the charger because it could keep some modules from updating properly, and it also mentions putting a charger on the 12v battery. They don’t want to rely on the average owner to get those 2 things correct for an update that should happen behind the scenes from the owners perspective (that’s how OTA is supposed to work).

I believe all of the update SSM/TSB have that instruction. From what I've read the methodology is different between OTA and dealer installed updates. The ABA method vs erase and write.
The dealer update is released before an OTA because there are extra coding steps required to package the update properly and push it out to the whole vehicle population. At least that's what we've seen with the PaaK update.

OTA can do ABA or erase and replace methods. The GWM facilitates it. The difference is Fords confidence that the GWM can do these updates without a 3rd party scan tool or dealer ready to diagnose if something goes wrong.

I'm fully confident all of these could be done OTA, Ford just hasn't gotten the software right on the GWM yet to have it do it with 100% confidence. That's my speculation at least.

Is there a list of all the SSMs , TSBs, etc..? I have refused to take my FE to the dealership since we took delivery in Feb.. now that the recent FordPass APP has made our PAAKs worthless, I think it's time to have the dealer do all the updates.. But the only thing showing up for the car is the PAAK (dealership or wait for OTA)... we were going to wait for the OTA.. but we have no choice now.

Again, looking for a complete list somewhere... THX

Short answer: It's complicated.
Long answer: If you search SSM and TSB with the 'search titles only' box checked you can come up with a pretty good list. Which of those your dealer will be willing to apply is another story. Technically dealers are only allowed to correct concerns that they were able to duplicate if they want Ford to pay them. Some dealers will update software based on your statement that the concern occurred. Some will do them all just because you asked nicely as a customer satisfaction gesture. YMMV as they say.

Check out the NHTSA AWD and RWD links here:

https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...manuals-and-web-sites-for-mach-e-owners.1660/

Once at the NHTSA site, look for the link to "manufacturer communications."

This has the TSBs and SSMs except for ones introduced very recently. To see those, follow @BMT1071's suggestion or look for posts from @breeves002.

If Ford has a fix for this issue why would they keep building possibly defective cars thru 11-8-2021? What am I missing?

Pretty sure they are using the date form that is more popular outside the US. DD-MM-YYYY So August 11, 2021.

Silly me. Other TSB’s have the month spelled out.

I sometimes get a loud noise charging at home with level 2. It was so loud I thought it was going to explode or something. While it was still plugged in I started the car and it stopped and it made the usual noises while charging. It has happened about 3 times since it was delivered in March 2021

Ok, I have a newbie question. Is there a way to tell what TSB's have been installed? Or put another way how do I know what still needs to be installed?
