It's more than a charger, it's a voltage regulated power supply that keeps the low voltage battery at 13.35 volts plus a little. Having proper voltage is very important in the upgrades. For most EV's, not just Ford. When the FDRS is testing the vehicle it has to run pumps and fans. and even sometimes heat and cooling. That's why it has to be more robust than a battery charger.
