Ford Mustang Mach-E Undercarriage damage F5D46233-4802-4569-AF32-A3AF3FBAC38B

hi all new mach e owner here. Car spun out in icy conditions and ran over a large hay stack covered in metal. No alerts on car but when inspecting underneath found this large gouge and other damage that extends along metal bar on side of battery cover. Battery cover is not damaged just the long metal bar on the outside of battery cover. Planning to bring to dealer asap, any insight as to how significant this damage is? Car is operating fine since incident, other than alignment seems a little off. Thanks!

While it does not look like it will effect battery performance, it is structural damage. Get it evaluated at the dealer and call your insurance company. This may not be cheap.

Battery protection rail did its job and can be replaced. Cold plate areas look untouched fortunately.

Someone here, I believe on the thread linked above by @Maquis, posted which areas of the undercarriage were allowed to have how much damage before it had to be replaced. In your case it looks like a new protection rail should get you back to new. But it should be put on a lift and inspected.

If it is not driving straight due to this implementation act and there appears to be no suspension damage, there is likely damage to the monocoque causing it to not drive straight. Have the suspension inspected along with the body. ??

ouch, but battery pan itself looks ok.....

Ford may recommend full battery replacement, and insurance may agree, but it will take *a while* for your local Service to get their hands on a battery and they may need training to remove/replace.

A short-term fix while waiting for a battery may be to fabricate a Uchannel 'stiffener' to overlay the rail, perhaps with tabs to tie into the existing bolts along the rail edge.

does replacing those rails require dropping the entire battery, draining, re-filling coolant ?

Insurance rarely ever messes around with a battery replacement, they'll just total the car.

Seems like these rails are made of paper lol.
you can try to get an alignment done under the 12 month 12k mile alignment warranty.

You could reference a Sandy Munro video when the pack was removed from their MME. Looks like the rail is part of the battery tray and no way to replace just the rail. Would need to swap in a tray if they go that route instead of a completely new pack. If the tray is swapped would need to completely disassemble your pack after removal from your vehicle from what i see.

The only damage I see are those side rails. They are sacrificial and placed there to protect the battery. I had both of mine damaged in transport and had them replaced by the dealer under warranty. They aren't an expensive piece and easy to replace.

I hope that is all that was damaged.

Would be nice if the fix is that simple.
