The first Mustang was made in Mexico?
No, it was in Michigan, but the first Mustang was in fact delivered in Newfoundland precisely because it was furthest from the factory and they apparently started deliveries from outward in back then - see wikipedia page on Stanley Tucker.

For my own selfish reasons, I hope they start in California this time around!

I don't "know" anything but I do have a little experience with very large established sales companies. There is a whole lot of playing politics that goes on. If there are any large dealers who have the ear of the folks in the front office because of good sales numbers, or hitting a certain promotion consistently, I bet they will be first on the list if they want those cars. That's a big IF.
Some dealers might not care. They may be as stuck in the 60's and 70's as Laugh In.
But the dealers who see EVs as the wave of the future will be banging on corporate for those cars and the ones who are all ready hitting the numbers are likely to get them first.
Unless they do go purely on that reservation system, and I just don't see that happening.
I am also wondering if a few more will make it to California first because the Governor has made the goal of no ICE cars sold here after 2035. He signed that document on a Rapid Red Mach E.
Maybe I am just getting my hopes up.
CA will get more cars anyway as CA has more orders than other states (based on info on this forum ) - so most likely more FEs and definitely lot more premiums will be coming to CA - at least more people will see them on the road first than some other states.

We all don't know how Ford will handle the distribution of the cars - a big unknown

That is cool. Didnt know that. I just presumed the cars would ship from Mexico immediately after OKTB and then head straight to the dealerships on record.

I learn something new each day...

I think you're a year early for any of that. Other than the "one per dealer allowed" FCTP units, MMEs are being delivered directly from customer orders. If we're to believe the inside numbers we're getting, there won't be any unordered (by customers) MMEs for the 2021 model year. And maybe into 2022MY.

If customers waiting in line for 6 months with a confirmed order hear dealers are getting MMEs for routine lot inventory months ahead of them, there's gonna be blow-back. I think Ford is savvy enough to know they need to avoid that. A few secret ones, maybe, but not in any meaningful numbers.

Now, once customer orders are fulfilled, then the normal game is back on for who gets lot inventory ahead of others. But with limited supply, supply may not catch up to pre-order demand until 2022.

Same here. Still too soon anyway. It'll change by delivery time.

I think the incentives will change by the time december arrives - they need to sweeten the pot so to speak to drive end of the year sales I would presume.

They may not need to this year. Sounds like the COVID production delays and the rebounded economy (or at least stock market) have really boosted demand for new (and used) vehicles relative to supply.
