it just seems like there could’ve been a better use of space throughout the vehicle, it’s like underneath the floor in the rear of the vehicle - they just filled up with foam rather than giving us a big compartment like Y. Losing that space, and now at least having to work to reclaim the frunk space by removing the divider just shows that the usable space wasn’t prioritized very much

I wonder if this might have been done for purposes of sound insulation?

Motor Trend today published a review of the Model Y criticizing it for excessive road noise:

“There's also the matter of the road noise, which we also reported previously. Although there's very little noise from the wind and other vehicles, there's a constant dull roar of tire and road noise coming up through the floor. Same ask as above: If we're not buying a high-performance SUV, give us a luxury SUV.”

Canada announces Can$590 mn investment in Ford electric car plant

The repurposed Ford assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario will produce five new electric vehicles such as this all-electric Mustang Mach-E unveiled in California in November 2019
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government and the province of Ontario announced Thursday investments of Can$295 million (US$223 million) each in a Ford factory billed as the largest electric vehicle plant in North America.

At a joint news conference with Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Trudeau called the investments totaling Can$590 million "one of the first steps to build a next-generation auto industry."
It will also help Canada—if Canadians buy the electric vehicles produced at the plant—move toward its goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, he said.
The Oakville, Ontario assembly plant is to be repurposed as part of a deal announced last month between the Ford Motor Company and the Canadian union Unifor, to build five new electric vehicle models and the batteries that will power them.
The project is valued at Can$1.8 billion and will secure up to 5,400 Ford jobs in Canada, including over 3,000 at the Oakville plant.
"Today's announcement represents the largest investment in Ontario's auto sector in over 15 years," said Doug Ford, adding that the plant "will be the largest electric car manufacturing facility anywhere in North America."
"This is a historic moment," he said.
According to Statistics Canada, there were 1.9 million new vehicles registered in Canada last year and while electric vehicle sales jumped nearly 40 percent, they represent a very small portion of the total cars and trucks on Canadian roads.

Ford is going all-in on the EV market.

The divider in the frunk comes out everyone. Up to you as the buyer, if you are going to remove it.

It is just 4 small covers that need to be removed. Ford said not to remove for safety reasons.

I was told 4 small bolts, but contact down there said they are more like pop into place with covers.

Along with all the others speculating about why the dividers exist, I think the safety reasons Ford may be referring to is the potential for a small person/child to get locked in - using teh wide open frunk as a place to sleep or hide or curl. With the dividers in place, the potential is reduced or eliminated as child cant curl into the frunk space. It takes liability of their hands. and transfers it to the owners. Other tan that, the plastic dividers are not likely to enhance crash ratings as they are just too thin. I could be wrong though.

Unless there's been anything actually announced, I'm not ready to write off the frunk divider as being unremovable yet. That would go totally against the selling points Ford has already touted for it.

Remember that this was an image from the Mach E release. They changed their minds.

It was at the Cleveland Auto Show right before everything closed down, and I got to see the car from a social distance and take pictures, but they had the car on a platform and you could not touch it or sit inside.
Some fortunate people have seen the test cars driving around the Detroit area and even into Ohio, but I am not one of them.

I saw it at the Washington Auto Show. There were no Frunk dividers at that time.
