Heavy regen caused some state where the car alerted you to stop. And in some cases it would engage the parking brake - causing the nasty noises people have described.

The vehicle would not turn off; pressing the power button resulted in it blinking.

I thought the same thing so will note that it will not turn off with your foot on the brake. It will just flash as you describe. Ensuring your foot is off the brake may help with this problem.
