Well, the Germans went on a crash program to shut down every single nuclear plant as quickly as possible, with no plans to replace that capacity (unless you count reliance on a brutal dictator as a viable backup plan). So, ask me again if I have a lot of sympathy for Germany?

They arenāt interested in a fare tax, they just want to push back on EVs for their corporate masters.

First, I love the picture. Second, I actually donāt mind paying a āreasonableā road use tax to make up for the fuel taxes I donāt pay. To be honest, I suspect if we were to go to an odometer based system, there would be too much cheating (As it is, look at what Tesla does with their odometers!) Anyway, I just payed my registration for my F150 Lightning and there wasnāt a $200 fee added on.
Just hang in there and send a bitchy email to your state rep! You definitely wonāt like going back to an ICE vehicle .

Youāre totally right. Base generation cost from Eversource is $.09 to $.11, but I didnāt take all the fees into account. My last electric bill is more like $.325/kWh with everything included (if I just divide the total kWh over the bill total). Chalk it up to me being a new EV owner and trusting Google instead of my own electric bill.
Unfortunately, Germany had a fair number of Boiling Water Reactors that were of the same era (1960s) as Fukushima. Technology has moved on and many of the issues with the old tech reactors are no longer problems. Hopefully, moving forward a bit of sanity (try not to laugh) can prevail everywhere in our desires to move from fossil fuels as much as possible.
I would point out that the German BWRs were not located in active earthquake zones or coastal areas prone to tsunamis. My complaint with Germany is not necessarily deciding to phase out those reactors; but the panicked way in which they did it, with no consideration to how they were going to replace that capacity. Of course, as I said, weāre barreling down a path to end up at the same result, just with different motivations. Iām surprised solar hasnāt been made illegal yet because āthe panels are ugly and cause bird cancerā or something ?
The EV fee is coming separately, assuming you registered after April 1, the effective date of the legislation.
