USED ELECTRIC CAR?

anyone has a suggestion on what "used" EV they would purchase and how late a model year, and what mileage on the clock they would entertain.
I have a newly licensed driver I need to purchase a car for, and I want to get him an inexpensive EV that makes sense.
I'm thinking a Tesla but not sure.

So many great choices with all the low mileage EVs coming off lease now. My kids are grown now but I would not have gotten them a Mach-E. Too much of a temptation to drive fast. They drove a Honda minivan and a Prius . A new driver does not need high performance, a premium trim, or a large battery. Safety is a priority.

My wife got a 2023 Ariya last year with less than 14K miles. It was on the road for barely a year then sat on the lot. There are a lot of used EV's like this. No issues with it and she loves it. Nowhere near as nice looking as the Mach-E but it fits her style better. It is also quieter than the Mach-E.

Leaf, Equinox, MachE, Model 3, Aryia, ID4.......The list just goes on. I'd stay south of 25K miles

I could be completely wrong about this but heard newer Teslas can not turn off 1PD....assuming might this might be an issue for a new driver. I'm sure we have a Tesla guy or two that could chime in.
Bolt wouldn't be a bad starter car, or lease a brand new electric Kona (or equivalent)

May be worth feeling out how much insurance will cost for a new driver. I would lean towards a Leaf, Bolt, Kona, or Niro, as they're compact and can be cheaper (and cheaper to insure). An older Leaf is tempting if you don't want your new driver driving longer distances, but bad idea if range anxiety is a concern.

Same scenario here for granddaughter. Looking for Used Bolt with the replacement battery and low(ish) miles. Close friend who is the ultimate car nut loves his used Bolt. Where you are located there are no lack of Chevy dealers in case you need service and (hopefully) one of them is competent.

We bought a used loaded Bolt under 10k, family did also, all 2017-2019s got new batteries. They are very similar to driving any other Chevy, I recommend them to everyone with teens. Also a 92mph top speed, so a bit less to worry about.

For a newly licensed driver?

Almost none of them and DEFINITELY not a Tesla.

They’re too fast for a new driver. And 1PD might be hard to transition to driving other cars.

Pick one of the basic ones that are slower.

Bolt and Leaf come to mind. Mileage and year just based on whatever is in your budget.

A lot of it will depend on your budget. When my younger daughter got in a car wreck, I had hoped to put her in a used EV, but my budget was $5k. At $10k, there were a lot of Bolts available, but that was more than I wanted to spend. At $5k, I could only find older “city cars” with roughly 50-60 miles of range. We ended up getting her an old Prius. Not as good as a full BEV, but the best compromise I could find back in December ‘25. Once we hit $10k, there were a fair amount of options in the 180-200 mile range

That said, we got our 2022 GTPE about a year ago at almost half off MSRP, and we’re loving both the car and the price!

the GTPE is the MUSTANG GT, how many miles were on it, and what did you pay, if you don't mind me asking?
