You are kicking your foot straight toward the front of the car in the middle of the rear bumper, yes? A lot of people make a mistake of going side to side or kicking on a corner.

I've managed to get the kick to open feature to work exactly once, so I never try it anymore. It's on my list of things for the dealer to check when it goes in for service someday.

Works every single time for me. I use kind of a swiping motion.

The gesture is not difficult. Stand behind the vehicle, facing it, both feet on the ground, centered (you should be looking at the shark fin or inside rear view mirror). Pick up one foot (I happen to use my right foot because I’m left foot dominant) off the ground and move it straight forward, not bending at the knee, or moving your leg left or right at the hip, until your foot goes under the bumper. Then bring your foot straight back out from under the bumper, again being careful not to bend at the knee or move your leg left or right at the hip. Once your leg is out from under the bumper and back parallel with the other leg, return your foot to the ground.
If you’ve executed the feature properly, your lift gate will open.

I guess maybe a new poll is needed. Are you a kicker or a sweeper?

I use the sweeping motion and it works every time.

The lift gate on my Pacifica is also hit or miss. Over time I have gotten better at using it.

Similar to the MME, a straight forward kicking motion is recommended. Swiping side to side or some sort of weird wiggling motion seems less successful, but it works for some.

Yes kick straight forward and back. Works sometimes. Does anyone know what technology is used? Light sensor? Motion sensor? Where is it located? Inside the bimper?

Probably user error.

Sometimes, though, I will kick under the bumper and it will go on alert (tail lights come on) but I have to kick a second time to initiate the actual lift.
