Ford Mustang Mach-E 2028 Ford Fathom EV Pickup ($28,350 Starting Price) - News & Info Screenshot 2026-08-13 at 8.28.21 AM

Ford just dropped a video highlighting the new Universal EV production system for the Ford Fathom. The Louisville Assembly Plant is currently being transformed for UEV production. It previously was used to produce the Ford Escape (now discontinued). This represents a $2 billion investment by Ford.

The Fathom features aluminum Unicasting technology of front and rear frames, saving a lot of production time and complexity. The structural battery pack will be installed from below with seats already attached. The new assembly process will also improve ergonomics for workers.

What's missing from the video and the timeline is 1903, when Henry Ford's wife was driving one of the first electric cars. It was powered by lead-acid batteries. Mrs. Ford would not drive a Model T because she couldn't crank the engine to start it.

Small correction - Clara got her first Detroit Electric car in 1908. The first model T was introduced at about the same time. Also, apparently Clara’s car was equipped with a child seat 🙂
