We Are Still Trying to Forget About the Mustang Mach-E
by Gabrielle DeSantis on February 14, 2021
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is perhaps one of the most controversial new cars to hit the market. While there are a lot of reasons to love the sporty electric SUV itself, many Mustang fans have been pretty vocal about sharing the Mustang name with something so unconventionally not-a-Mustang. Could Ford have made a mistake when it came to naming the new flagship electric SUV, or is there a reason we should be paying more attention to the Mustang Mach-E?
The Mustang Mach-E itself
The Mustang Mach-E itself is a pretty neat electric vehicle, regardless of the controversy surrounding the name. With a starting price of around $42,000, it is clear that Ford is attempting to enter the electric SUV market at a price point that competes well with other, more established options, like the Tesla Model X, and having a significantly lower price than many other luxury options. It’s got a sporty appearance complete with futuristic headlights, an aggressive front fascia, and smooth, sloping body lines that make the crossover look even more appealing. Still, it’s been so easy for many critics to get hung up on the car’s name.

Potential problems
There are a lot of problems that the Mustang Mach-E faces or could potentially face. For one, newer buyers in the electric car market might be more inclined to buy a more established electric SUV, though it doesn’t negate the positive side of the car’s more affordable price point. As the first generation of the electric crossover, buyers may be a bit apprehensive as we’ve learned to expect some kinks and problems as the car hits the roads. However, there aren’t any active recalls or real concerns that potential buyers need to be aware of.

The Mach-E name
It only makes sense that with so many sectors of the automotive industry turning to hybrid and electric vehicles that Ford would took a leap to create something like the Mustang Mach-E. Overall, the idea of the electric Ford SUV isn’t really where the problem is for most people, but rather the adoption of the Mustang branding and name. In fact, you won’t find a standard Ford badge on the front end, but rather that classic Mustang design, and Mustang purist seem to reject this car for that very reason.

While classic Mustang fans might be wishing that they could forget all about the Mustang Mach-E and it’s future in the automotive industry, we can’t say that we are overly disappointed in it. Though, perhaps it would have been better received under a different name.

Bummer, another "why did they have to call it a Mustang?" clickbait... Because if it was another Focus Electric they wouldn't even be writing an article about it (and it wouldn't have come onto my radar at all). Controversy sells ads, they should be more grateful.

Perhaps.... Not perhaps... Again - perhaps...

What a bunch of crap without real content. One of the reasons MME found me and I found MME is the word Mustang - that attracted me as a customer. Obviously, it was not the only reason and not the main one, but one one of them.

So, maybe the better question is - how many new customers MME attracts with the usage of "Mustang" name? This "whining" about "not real Mustang" will not make any difference now, after MME is already out. Stop crying...
