I think I will just get the clear bra done and deal later with getting a bracket or other option if I get pulled over and fix-it ticketed. The issue I see with the plate sticker is that while flexible there will be an issue applying to the bumper if you want it smooth due to the size/curves involved. I've seen the plate sticker on a model 3 and felt it looked oddly huge (even though it is the same size as a plate), but does avoid the drilling of holes. With the dimples there already (clear bra has to be cut around them) it wouldn't be beyond reason to actually get some color matched "plugs" to fill in the holes if the standard bracket is used- with the clear bra protective layer underneath. Nipples instead of dimples, if you will ?. Kinda a shame that the plate sticker for California isn't something altogether different like the letter/numbers alone- but not surprised since the graphic designers at the DMV gave us such "lovely" HOV stickers.

Scott,
I am guessing you were planning to be at Metro in Schenectady yesterday. I drove from Buffalo and met a couple of guys from the Capital area EV group and they mentioned a friend from Syracuse planned to come but work got in the way.

I am also concerned about drilling the front bumper for a bracket and if the 1.5 inches is sufficient per Craig, that is the way to go.

Sorry you missed it.

For those looking @ Craig's solution + PPF, what are peoples plans for those who are apply PPF onto the front grill/bumper?

Per Craig's site - *CAUTION: Not recommended for install over vinyl stripes or clear bra type material.
As I said above, I see two options:
1) Inform my XPEL installer to leave a section under the nose open to install the mount
2) have them install the mount too.

Do the dealers automatically drill holes when they receive the car? When do I notify my dealer not to drill holds? I live in Cali

In your state? Yeah, probably.

You could contact them now to let them know you don't want the bracket installed. And ask them who specifically to remind about that, and when, as you are getting closer to delivery.

yeah I asked my dealer and said he’d make a note of it. But once this thing is shipped I do plan to send a reminder, because dealers...

Should you want to pull off the plate in the lip under the nose (holding the license plate mechanism), will it pull the paint off too? Our cars will have recently been painted and even though they say they're "cured" I wonder. That 3M adhesive is incredibly strong!

Also, the area under the nose of the car which has adequate clearance is not straight - it's curved. The plate, however, is straight which leads me to ask if any portion of the plate will protrude out from the lip. If it would protrude, wouldn't mounting the plate slightly off center take care of this?

Tell them now and remind them often as others have suggested. I told the GM of the dealer by email and he said he got it and will note it but i plan to remind him a couple more times especially as the build date gets closer.

Unless some one tries it we wont know. Also the question is how much will it protrude and is it likely to sustain more damage (the plate holder) if it protrudes enough when you park close to cement curbs or other obstacles - I dont think so but wont know until it is tried.

I do think it will pull the paint off if you forcibly try to remove it - based on the website it is indicated that it is stuck on hard. perhaps we sit with a heat gun warming it up for while if you plan to remove.

The dealers will when prepping the car for delivery. I am going to remind mine of my preference when I get a shipping notice, and then with a direct phone call reminder when I know the car is set to arrive, because yea, dealers/salespeople. This worked when I told them about the Escape I ordered years ago, but it didn't have dimples on the bumper cover either.

I think the manufacturers starting adding the dimples (my Pacifica has 4) because so many of the dealers were installing the plate brackets crooked or off-center.

Mike and Qi said a guy had driven over from Buffalo. Glad you got to see it. I really wanted to see Infinite Blue in person. You getting a Red one, Jeff? Never mind I see you are going for GB. BTW, I own a 2017 Grabber Blue Ecoboost Stang.

Not only should you let your dealership know. Tell them you will not take delivery if they do. And, remind them not just once or twice but a few times. Worked for me on my Mustang.

I would bring the bracket with me to the dealership and install it before taking it off the lot. Just bring a cleaning solution with you per Craig's instructions.

You should be able to hear the plate to remove the adhesive strip.

As for the Shape, do you know something I don’t? I just looked over three different Mach Es and it looks pretty close to flat to me.
