Don't know that I'm quite ready to totally give up my ICE addiction. Don't get me wrong, I've been debating it heavily! That said, I'm imagining the version of the Lightning I'd want is going to be in the $65K+ range. Budget isn't there for it when I will have to kids in college. Yeah me!! ? ?

HA! I wish I'd be happy with that. Been spoiled with my Tundra Limited for too long. Nice leather seats, lots of room, and the fact the whole back window rolls down. Base isn't going to work.

Me too! Same year and color as well.
Me three! Same year but in grey. My 3 year lease was ending and turned to the Mach E. Sold it to Carvana and made money. If Honda made a long-range all electric option, I would have seriously considered it because the Clarity was very reliable. That being said, the Mach E drives so much better.

What’d you hate about the model S
A lot. I could write a book. Ready?

First and foremost, the build quality or lack thereof. The thing was a rattle trap. Rattles all over the interior on all but the absolute smoothest of road surfaces. I live on a dirt road, so this problem was right in my face every time I came and went from my house. The driver's seat would tick and creak whenever my weight shifted, the dash had a horrendous rattle that would come and go like a rheumatic knee. The speakers would rattle, buzz and distort with even moderate music or sometimes talk radio/podcasts. Buzzes inside the headliner, and on and on.

Build quality issues extended beyond interior/cosmetic. The Raven suspension is a nightmare. At low speed on any kind of rough surface (like my dirt road), the front speed would knock and rattle like a clapped out NYC taxi. Then there's the dreaded "shudder". Sure, the car had a nice 3.7 second 0-60, but take advantage of it and the entire front end would shudder and shimmy like it's about to shake apart. A persistent problem on all Model S/X.

Tesla refused to address any of these issues, and in fact includes language in their warranty excluding non-mechanical "noises". Of course, they finally issued a service bulletin on the shudder right after I traded in the car.

Poor ergonomics. The seats never fit me right. The center console impinged on my leg constantly. No door pockets. Really piss-poor cup holder placement. No sunglasses holder.

Poor interior quality in general, and very cheap feeling materials. The "vegan leather" is thin, unconvincing, and feels chintzy. The headliner is Alcantara. I hate Alcantara. I knew about this but figured I could let it slide, and I definitely could have since it wasn't on any touch surfaces.

Autopilot/FSD. Pretty good for long trips, but I actually find Ford's CoPilot more usable. FSD is overpriced and not nearly assertive enough for real world driving. I would usually turn off the "navigate on autopilot" mode, which provides automatic lane changes, freeway exits, navigates interchanges, etc. It would never change lanes when I wanted it to, and always change lanes when i didn't. It would happily jump behind that truck doing 50mph in the right lane, 2 miles before my exit. It would constantly pass people on the right, something that I never do when driving manually. On surface roads, you're capped at 5mph over the posted limit. Nearly everyone drives faster than that on country roads here in Maine (except those with MA plates who generally drive 5 under). And then there's the phantom braking. It would freak out pretty often, slamming on the brakes at the sight of an overpass or a shadow.

"Too clever" technology. They try to use machine vision instead of simple sensors for things like rain-sensing wipers and auto high beams. It fails. The wipers would frequently fail to activate even in steady rain. Forget about the snow. But they'd activate when pulling into my garage, for no reason. The high beams would fail to disengage about 50% of the time in the face of oncoming traffic, but would always disengage when passing someone's porch light, a mailbox reflector, etc. The high beams would disengage 100% of the time on my dirt road. Nevermind the fact that it's pitch black and there's not a single street light for 20 miles. On the Mach-e I can easily toggle between automatic and manual high beams with the stalk, but on the S it's buried in menus.

No CarPlay or Android Auto. 'nuff said on that one. Can't even activate the phone's voice commands with the steering wheel buttons. OTAs were plentiful but almost never substantive. Usually they'd add more games and fart sounds. Poor paint quality. $80k car came with ugly wheels with plastic wheel covers. While the car was extremely efficient for its weight and size, the rated 400 mile range was a pipe dream. Sure, you'll get that if you go 55mph on flat roads at 75 degrees. I can get the rated range in the Mach-e driving like a normal person.

I could go on but this is about 6 paragraphs past TL;DR. But hey, you asked!

I have zero regrets trading it for the Mach-e. I laugh when I see most of the relatively minor complaints here (though some have been more serious). I laugh especially hard when people act like Tesla has no equivalent problems!

I hope the IPC buzz people on here don't see that. They'll lose their minds.

It served us well, but we realized that we never used the gas tank, so we figured why bother to have it.

I originally ordered a Mach-E GT for my wife. I bought a new Roush Raptor just as the pandemic ramped up in April of 2020, and paid $72k on a $86k sticker. A year and 2 months later I was offered $80k to sell it. So now the Mach-E is gonna be mine.

What vehicle did you let go of to get your MME?
I gave up my 2007 Charger SRT8 to go electric.

But in 2016, that was a Chevy Volt, for the range.

I now consider the Volt to have been a transitional car, and the Mach-E turns out to be the car I was waiting for.

I'm sure one of them has remarked at how it would NEVER be a problem in a Tesla. ?My Mach-e has the buzz, but I would have never noticed had I not specifically listened for it, while parked, with radio and all fans off, and my ear close to the dash. I finally found it, but I still don't hear or notice it, ever. The Tesla was a cacophony of regret. The Mach-e is blissfully quiet.

Funny thing is the S is the only Tesla I would have considered owning if it wasn't out of my price range.

I can't speak for the refreshed Model S, but if the one you didn't get was anyone like the one I did, then you dodged a bullet there. Or something. ?
