What do you think it means if my pre-ordered Mach E is now listed in the dealers website

My preordered Mustang Mach E has been at the dealer the last few weeks. I went in after it arrived and did a quick check. Ever since then, however, I’ve been trading emails with the sales guy, initially about making sure the dealer was aware of Ford Options financing because that was a point of contention when I went in, but last couple weeks the response emails from the sales guy have been very slow and a bit cagey about the car being hung up in Service waiting for some part (a “software upgrade”).

I happen to look at the dealer site just now and find the car listed on there site for open sale (verified it is the VIN for my order).

Not entire what to make of this. I really do want the car, but I have not been getting a good vibe from this dealer, especially after the interaction with the dealer’s finance manager left such a sour taste.

My pre-ordered car was listed on my dealer's site for 2-3 months before I picked it up.

I wouldn't worry about that. Some dealers list customer orders as "inventory" even before they've been fully built at the factory.
Thanks. One detail I forgot is that it was never on their site before. Just noticed this now.

Still, it doesn't strike me as a useful data point to worry about. You'd need to know how the dealership's inventory manager handles other customer orders. Do those get listed on the public web site or not? Each dealer seems to have its own decisions on how they do that.

When I special ordered my Tahoe a few years back the dealer listed it on their site when it finally arrived. I'm guessing once it's in their inventory it just automatically goes on the site till it's sold.

Until the deal is funded the car is technically not yours. Dealers list the cars to generate interest. They may have prospective buyers for the car if something goes sideways with your deal. Unless they are incredibly shady they won't sell it out from under you. You would likely have legal recourse if they did since you ordered it and placed a deposit.

Cars auto populate to dealer websites. They have to actively remove them. Some do, some don't. If anyone calls on "your" car, they'll be told something like, "We have sold that car, but we can order you one or put you on a list to call if another comes in" ... yadda yadda

Mine was on my dealer's site from just about the time it was built (or maybe shipped?). As noted, it doesn't mean anything.

Just confirming the consensus of the group -- when I started looking for an available MME, I called local dealerships that had cars showing up on their websites. I was told by all of them that those cars were orders for existing customers and were not available for sale. It does seem to be common for the cars they receive to show up on their websites regardless of whether they're open stock or customer-specific orders.

Yeah, all of them end up on the Ford site. The explanation I was given is that it is not your car until the deal has been funded. Makes some sense to me. We've all seen plenty of refused MMEs get purchased by forum users.

Mine (ordered 5/3) isn't on my dealer's site. Neither is the canceled order my wife will be getting in about a month.
