What does a build date mean to when we receive our car?

We are all getting our build dates, but frankly the only date I care about is when I receive my car. It seems like there is some regionality in the way the build dates were allocated. I am in NY with a build week of 12/7. Do I get a car in 2020? What is the consensus on a build date to a receive date?

Good question. I will see if my sales manager has an idea about that when he, hopefully, gets back to me about changing my color still at this point without losing my place.

If I had to guess (and I am more or less), I’d bet the MMEs leave the plant in Mexico en masse. That is they’re loaded into trains or trucks then driven to a hub facility some where where they’re shipped out via region and smaller geographical areas. That maximizes loads for the trucks and trains.

The downside is that it won’t be the lightning fast delivery we saw for the Mach-e tour vehicles. I think 2 week delivery to most of the 48 contiguous states is possible though not necessarily likely for some locations.

Agree. But it gives them the opportunity to put other vehicles on the truck so they don't have to "fill" a truck only with Mach E's. I would be extremely surprised if there's not a regional distribution center somewhere on our side of the border where the cars are dropped off and re-shipped. If we expect all dealerships to have direct routes that lead to Cuautiltan, that would seem terribly inefficient.

Yup - realistically only a portion of the scheduled orders are likely to be delivered before year end - most dates are in Dec and that makes it tough. If they split deliveries then perhaps the Nov builds more likely to get delivered than mid Dec builds. Again speculation and as we say today, Ford seems to have its own logic and everyone may be surprised by a Dec 30th delivery

Don't know if the procedure is different in US but when I ordered my factory built (as opposed to stock) Kuga I was allocated a build date. My dealers system told all of the spec etc and also gave an estimated delivery date to dealer.

There is rarely one for the entire country. They tend to be near coasts where there are port cities.

I used to buy stuff from B&H in new york all the time because "ground" shipping was always next day service to south jersey. When they opened a distribution center about 20 miles from my house, I thought "what could be better than this"? Well, they switched from UPS to USPS to DHL for their ground shipping. The last thing I ever bought from them went from the DC 20 miles away up to north jersey, then to south of baltimore, back up to the post office in a town 15 miles south of me, and finally it was delivered via USPS to my house. To go 20 miles as the crow flies took 4 days and hundreds of miles.

When I complained that a $15 item shouldn't need me to pay $15 in shipping to get it the next day when I live so close to the DC the guy basically laughed at me. For point of reference I was a wedding photographer for 10 years and got almost all my stuff from them - spending in excess of $15000.

Spoke with a general sales manager at my dealership today, and he told me to expect at least a month out from the schedule build week. For example my date is December 21st, and he said very likely it won't be until at least the end of January for delivery. I'm in Virginia near DC.
