Fun bits of trivia on US ford heated windshields:
  • The innovation originally came out on the mid-1970s Lincoln Mark IV. The implementation was a thin layer of gold alloy sandwiched in the glass. The layer would heat when a current was applied. Apparently, the system required a high current.
  • in the mid-1980s Ford launched a modified version that used a different alloy. I think it may have been lower impedance (required less current).
  • Supposedly, the European version (quick clear) isn’t currently legal in the United States as it’s actually an imbedded grid in the windshield and US regulations prohibit windshields that have anything that could obscure the driver’s vision.

I thought the last time this was discussed on here someone said that one of the Land Rover models currently has it in the US?

We had a Range Rover Sport with it, 5 or 6 years ago. Car lived in a garage, though, so really never noticed a difference.

There are Volvo models that have it in the US as well, so I don't think it has anything to do with regulations. I don't know the reason, but heated windshields are just not a common offering here, which is a bummer since an EV is the perfect place to have one.

It might be a replacement cost issue. There are a few states that put down very small pebbles for winter traction and a result there are may broken windshields.

This…all day. From my experiences and observations of late, Americans are getting much more aggressive and much worse at driving both at the same time. We need to fix the people, not continue to cover up their lack of ability with more tech. We don’t need fancy headlights, cars that apply the parking brake automatically, self driving modes, and whatever departure warnings, we need to pay attention.

That being said, I want cooled seats. I have them on my 2015 Chevy, not sure why my “loaded” mustang can’t have them.

What if there are 4 people in the vehicle?
One of them gets new earrings...

Really no adaptive headlights ? That part does work really well...

I never knew there were so many differences.
Remember, anything more sophisticated than tea candles in ball jars are illegal in the US. Along with things like electrically heated windscreens with visible grids (people have corrected me on this one).

Mammal collision detection in avoidance. Basically the pedestrian system expanded to detect deer, dogs, etc.

What is this? (The feature you’re asking for, not the picture.)
The LIM button allows to set manually a speed limit selecting SET+ or SET- and the car will not exceed that speed even pushing the pedal. It is useful in residential areas or on roads with no signs.
It is different from the Intelligent Speed Limit selectable with the Advanced Cruise Control. It is standard on European MMEs.
